In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, gamers take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who have wronged him. Through the course of his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth of the Spirit that compels him, learns the origins of the Rings of Power and ultimately confronts his true nemesis.

Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session. Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.

Just watched the movie 'Hook' last night. I loved it when it first came out in the movies back in 1991. Was such a great idea about Peter Pan grown up and having to go back to his roots with the Lost Boys.

As much as I want to love this game...

Boo! Boo this game! If you're gonna make a Middle-earth video game make it obey the middle-earth mythos. Boo lazy writing. Booooo

Human-wraith hybrid? Stupid and not canon at all. Mind control powers? Stupid and not canon at all.

Literally everything else about the game? Looks awesome. Which sucks, because its the first epic LOTR game and it barely has anything to do with Middle-earth.

I would love a LoTR game akin to skyrim. Although The world/characters of skyrim didn't interest me a whole lot like others, the world of Middle Earth and the epic scale of storytelling would.

@Super12 please explain how it doesn't

This game actually looks pretty damn cool, but I agree with @Super12. Nowhere in the Tolkien Mythos is there anybody with this kind of superpower-y, magic. Do not understand what the creators of this game were thinking.

First off, I'm close to hating myself for being a troll. I hate trolls. Middle-earth's just my thing so I get pretty butthurt about stuff like this.

When I say it has nothing to do with Middle-earth I mean:

Forgivable:
-the protagonist Talion doesn't exist in any histories of ME
-the setting and story is wrong as the Rangers had abandoned the Black Gate before Sauron returned
-the protagonist has a stupid Americanized accent

Not Cool:
-it ignores the established canon of everything we know about Wraiths (they're connected to the Ring and the Ring alone. They don't fuse together with people based on some curse and they don't share powers. If someone was being turned into a wraith [ala Frodo in FOTR] then he wouldn't get to turn his "wraith powers" on and off willy nilly. He's doomed to be undead forever.)
-it creates unnecessary supernatural powers like mind control not seen anywhere else throughout Arda
-it completely ignores almost countless other established and epic characters and stories that would've accomplished the exact same goal for basically glorified fanfic

So yeah. If you love this stuff than its just too much, it's strays too far. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though. When I play games like this I go all in, and I can't if it's just a knock-off.

@Super12, I see. Honestly, the game is mostly forgivable to me. I like how they're trying to add to the Middle-Earth mythos. I mean, Tolkein created this entire world, and he only wrote about a very small portion of it.

They should make a game where you play as Sauron and experience his rise to power.

@damntree - not gonna start a flame war, but know this. You clearly do not know your Tolkien.

Just reminds me of Assassin's Creed. I don't think this game should be attatched to JRR Tolkien or have the title Middle Earth & Mordor attached to it. I think this game should have been a stand alone game.

This game just stray's to far from the mythos which is just unforgivable.

@Super12, At least give it a try before you hate it. Yeah, it strays from the Middle-Earth mythos, but...actually that's pretty much it.

@MightyZeus, Why does everyone say Assassin's Creed? To me, it looks more like Arkham Asylum and Arkahm City. And it doesn't stray that far from the mythos. And it's certainly not unforgiveable
