G.I. JOE 3 Gets A Writer; Movie Will Focus On Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 'Roadblock'

According to Variety, Paramount and Skydance have chosen Jonathan Lemkin to write G.I. Joe 3 for a 2016 release. He's already written The Longest Night (which Frank Marshall is set to direct) for the studio, and past credits include Shooter, Devil's Advocate and Lethal Weapon 4. Jon Chu was at one point attached to return to direct G.I. Joe 3, but that isn't happening as of right now. The site goes on to reveal that Dwayne Johnson and Adrianne Palicki are expected to return with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and David Ellison producing. The focus will be on The Rock this time though, with Roadblock taking on an even larger role in proceedings. Production will likely begin in the second quarter of 2015, and after G.I. Joe: Retaliation took $370 million at the worldwide box office, they're obviously keen on establishing this as a new franchise. What do you guys think?

It'll focus on Roadblock? Really? The way you phrase it you make it sound like GI Joe 2 wasn't already focusing on him.

Retaliation started off good, but quickly became crap. Hell even Rise of Cobra was more enjoyable.

GI Joe 2 was a slight improvement but it's lack of Cobra was just horrifying. All he did was SlowMotion walk! lol xD If they would really have to make him a bad a** for me to be all in for a Transformers/GI Joe team up film.

Godd@mmit. Ohhh so the ROCK is a huge star now let's just focus entirely on him and his stories. Roadblock? Seriously? At least the new TMNT movie will still keep our child memories fresh. I think it looks better then both of those crap JOE movies combined. TURTLE POWER! Shell shOCK the rOCK.

They killed off Channing Tatum in the second one. How much more Roadblock focused can you get?

There's a GI Joe from Pittsburgh named Steeler. He's obviously the best GI Joe character ever made.

His last two screen plays were Red Planet & Shooter. No writing credit since 2007. Doesn't give me hope they will be correcting the problems with the first two movies.

The first one had a somewhat better plot, the second one had better costume designs.

Both the GI Joe films have been garbage.

The first one was like someone took a giant crap a piece of film reel and just put it in the theatres. The 2nd one was a slight improvement. Meaning the crap that was placed on the film reel wasn't quite as smelly, but make no mistake, it was still crap.

Wow this is what Lemkin's had in mind for Superman Reborn:

"Superman and Doomsday would have entered into a monumental battle which would have resulted in the death of both characters. As Superman lay dying in Lois' arms the superhero would have finally confessed his feelings for her which would have released his spirit and allowed it to enter the body of Lois. With Superman dead Lois would have quickly fallen pregnant with Superman's baby, which would have been born in a matter of days and then would have grown to adulthood within a matter of weeks. Lois was then killed off and her child would have become the new Superman."

Great hire guys!

Dwayne Johnson has proven to be a big draw for the past 3 years!!!!

He's been saving franchises from going downhill, so I'm not surprised by this decision

But…the last one was about Roadblock. It wasn't solely about him, but it definitely focused on him more so than anyone else. Why do we need a movie with more of him? I liked Retaliation, I want more Joe, not just Roadblock
Tevii
Tevii - 7/1/2014, 6:02 PM
That's too bad... I like the Rock a lot, but GI Joe should be as much an ensemble as The Avengers. A strong team dynamic, not a focus on a second tier character.... If they were smart they would stick to that and maybe even try solo spin off movies like marvel that could focus on how Roadblock and the others came to be GI joe members

I really wish Rock would take on some Good roles, he's got the size to be extremely intimidating on screen. I really want to see him in a CBM or a movie with a good story

he was in the second mummy, thats hardly saving a franchise, and that was around a time when he wasnt even a BIG movie star, and hes hardly the saviour when you can only name 2 films, one of which there is far to many of and should of ended before he ''save it'' and as for this, the films where crap from the start and they are still crap with him so he his hardly saving the franchise

~ (as) Long as they go back to the g-Goe numeral one tone.. - GREAT.!
count me in..

- if not.............then, ..there might be (even) more pacing problems that the second one had the misfortune of suffering thru..
