Yeah, I'm thinking we're both going to be disappointed. It all seems like to much at once to be a decent movie.

I'm a big GI Joe fan. I've been doing some light collecting of the 25th figs and can't wait to get the new old comic trades in 2009. But damn this movie looks awful.

Hawk looks like Flint, no Destro mask, everyone looks the same. It just doesn't feel right.

BUT....you never know. I ain't seen anything yet. So we'll see.

FAUX JOE!!! Friggin' fake Joes. I am so disappointed by what I've seen so far. I really ragged on a lot of the "Michael Bay raped my childhood crowd" before Transformers came out, and I feel a little more sympathetic to them now, because GI Joe was my thing as a kid, you know? More than that, it was mine and my dad's thing. I didn't like fishing, or working on cars, or building things, so dad and I didn't have a lot in common, but he collected the old 12" Joes, and he got a kick out of the smaller Joes that I collected. A lot of bonding on X-Mas morning building the Terror Drome, USS Flagg, setting everything up…Yeah. Dad called me up when he heard they were making this flick and asked what I'd heard about it... I told him. It even depressed him a little. UN international team, SF guy gone bad becomes Cobra Commander, Baroness the home wrecker, a face on snake eyes, power ranger suits, a freaking Wayans brother.... sigh. Broke the old guy’s heart. Makes me sad too. So I say Faux JOE!!! Fake freaking Joes. And knowing is half a losing battle.

nerosday, i can understand what you're saying and i think it's great that you and your father found something of common interest...i have a hard time connecting w/ my dad as well. but you still have to understand one thing.

it's just a movie.

life goes one whether the movie sucks or not.

and if it does, then forget it exists, ignore it, or something. just cherish those memories that you have w/ your father collecting the action figures.

Let this be your "Ang Lee's Hulk"...and just forget it exists.

I hear what you're saying SGA, but when something is that important you it's pretty hard to just let it slip bye, it really does almost hurt to see something meaningful to you just become another let down.

i too pray this doesn't suck horse bollocks. i had most of the joe toys as a kid including the terror dome so i'm disappointed that for a film like this in 09 that the character sci fi isnt even on the roster. or tunnel rat! but i digress because hollywood obviously always knows what's bets for us when doing first time film adaptations.

Thanks for the kind words guys, but don't worry I didn't mean for my little manifesto to sound as is my own childhood was completely forfeit because of one lame ass adaptation of one of my favorite boyhood toys and comics. I know it’s just a movie, but it bugs me that of all the movies and all the ways Hollywood can screw up something meant to be pure( patriotism, good guy vs. bad guy, America being able to say those are American heroes, etc) they screw up Joe. The concept was great on its own. Sure, it may have suffered a bit internationally, but if they had just put it out there to fit the original concept they would have gotten a great play from those worldwide who just wanted to see a good action movie. I never expected the Godfather, just something resembling that great piece of my childhood. Again, thanks for the responses; it’s nice to know there are some folks who can sympathize. Life goes on.
