A source for Schmoes Know has heard that Paramount and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Transformers") want Martin Campbell to direct G.I. Joe 3. It's his if he wants it.

Campbell hasn't directed a film since 2011's Green Lantern. That's understable as it is one of the worst comic book movies of all-time, despite what anyone tries to tell you. A shining example of how woefully bad a comic book movie can be if you don't respect or even understand the source material. However, Casino Royale is perhaps the best James Bond film of all time. It introduced us to Daniel Craig as 007, making him an overnight star, and its grittier take on the character reenergized the multi-decade franchise. How in the world did Martin Campbell directa gem like Casino Royale and a stinker like Green Lantern? It is quite the enigma.

G.I. Joe 3 is currently being written by screenwriter Jonathan Lemkin, who has writing credits for Shooter, Devil's Advocate and Lethal Weapon 4. The plan is to start filming in 2015 and release it sometime in 2016. Only thing we know about the story is that it will focus on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 'Roadblock.'

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy, Cobra, they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe® characters. On Blu-ray & DVD!

Decent director that was a bad fit for green lantern.

It also didn't help that the script was a mess.

Maybe this can be a baby step towards revitalizing his career.

Campbell ain't that desperate for work. Following Stephen "Hack" Sommers and John "Wish I Was Good Enough To Be A Hack" Chu? That's a fvcking insult.

We already got an awesome G.I. Joe movie, its called THE WINTER SOLDIER. And Paramount will never EEEEEEEEEVAH make a G.I. Joe film as good as TWS.

Getting rid of Channing was the best thing this film franchise ever did. Let's hope FOX comes to their senses and does the same.

KingTravis - Ah you're using the same defense that some DC partisans use on MAN OF STEEL. "Snyder can't be blamed despite being the director. Its all Goyer's fault really!"

How anyone can speak of Campbell and not mention the EPIC Mask of Zorro, i'll never understand. That movie CLEARLY proved he wasn't to blame for Green Lantern.

If the studio LETS him make a G.I Joe movie the way he wants to, it would be oceans better than what we've gotten so far.

I'd get Doug Liman (Director, Edge of Tomorrow and Bourne Identity) with Richard Dansky and Matt MacLennan (Writers of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist). They would deliver and give us the G.I. Joe film everyone has been waiting for.

Shaman - does he deserve total blame for GL? No. But does he deserve a hall pass for it? No.

Then again the real #1 people to blame for GL was Warner Bros.

It really was Goyer's fault though. It's a fact.

Wannabe - You know why DC partisans give Snyder a pass on MOS? Because they're stuck with him. Goyer apparently aint on the DCU committee anymore. I wonder who they'll blame for BVS if it underwhelms?

also Wannabe, Snyder worked on that script with Goyer.

@RRA Okay so if the BvS movie is great then will you believe it was the writing from David Goyer?
