The cast and crew for the Martin Campbell directed film
Green Lantern have been hard at work filming throughout the New Orleans, Louisiana, area since mid-March. Though fans have been lucky to see several dozen leaked images of the movie set and several cast members, Warner Bros has been able to keep the majority of on location shooting under wraps.
Several days ago, a local New Orleans news station was able to visit one of the movie's sets, which happened to be Lakeshore Airport. Lakeshore is being used as the backdrop for the fictitious Ferris Air headquarters and airfield, where both the film's protagonist, Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), and his father had worked as test pilots. The video was shot on day 80 of the film's production, and gives us a look at one of the first scenes for the movie with young actor Gattlin Griffith. Griffith's role has yet to be officially revealed, though it's been
speculated for months that he is portraying Ryan Reynold's boyhood counterpart:
In case you've missed it, here's an excerpt from the
film's official synopsis: 'In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.'
Green Lantern will continue filming in the New Orleans area through August, 2010; though there will be a short break at the end of July so that cast and crew members are able to attend the film's panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con International. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Temuera Morrison and Tim Robbins,
Green Lantern is scheduled for theatrical release June 17th, 2011.
