Digital Spy report that Green Lantern has gone straight to the top of the Australian box office in its opening weekend. Knocking the critically acclaimed Rise of the Planet of the Apes from the #1 spot, the DC Comics adaptation took in an estimated domestic total of over $3 million.

Will this help its chances of a sequel? Probably not, but if it continues to perform well overseas and on DVD/Blu-ray, that'll certainly convince Warner Bros. to push ahead with a sequel!
