Green Lantern Taps Sony Visual Effects Team

Green Lantern Taps Sony Visual Effects Team

Warner Brothers has hired the crew that will have one of the most difficult aspects of production; keeping the "cheese" out of the effects.

Sony Pictures Imageworks, whose credits include Watchmen, Superman Returns and the Spider-Man films, has signed on as the lead visual effects studio for Martin Campbell's superhero space adventure Green Lantern.

The VFX supervisors for the project are Karen Goulekas (Spider-Man, 10,000 BC) and Kent Houston (Push, Casino Royale). Jim Berney (I Am Legend, Lord of the Rings) will be VFX supervisor for Imageworks. Green Lantern reunites Houston with director Martin Campbell, who worked together on Edge of Darkness.

If Green Lantern is to live up to the expectations director Martin Campbell has set so far, the effects team has their work cut out for them. The film will showcase a vast number of alien races and a large portion is set to take place in outer space. More importantly, the most dynamic visual aspect in the film will be the 'constructs' created by the Green Lanterns' rings. Ifthe effects are not executed flawlessly, the film runs the risk of becoming a big budget cartoon.

If Martin Campbell takes a cue from the way Richard Donner brought Krypton to the screen in 1978 Superman the cheese will be left out easily. They need real life sets with just CGI to "enhance" the sets and characters. Pirates of the Carribean is a good act to use as a model also.

I hope they can find a good balance of believability with FX and the film.I just hope they don't try to make it too realistic and take all the fun out of it.

Tea-I left a comment at dailypop as well. I noticed they haven't posted any of the comments and haven't changed their article. Its like printing a retraction of a front page article on p. 58 the next day.

It is just a simple article but the topless jerkoffs don't understand the principle of it. It starts with just a picture then turns into blaitant plagerism before you know it. Gotta keep these things in check. Sad thing is they don't realize they are late on the news. Poni was the man and broke it first!

I think the Sony team will get things right on this one, the constructs from the ring may wind up being better than expected. I used to work for Sony and they take great pride in everything they get their hands on.
