Filming for Martin Campbell's comic adaptation
Green Lantern has been relentless since mid-March; with the movie's cast and crew monopolizing many areas of New Orleans, Louisiana. With the exception of several of the alien Green Lantern Corps members, the film's cast is major roles have all been set in stone. In fact, most of the key actors involved in the production have already had time in front of the cameras.
Minor roles in an enormous project such as this are plentiful, with new characters and extras added almost daily. Here are several updates to the cast, as well as where they most likely fit into the film:
Mindy Caraccioli - Mr. Hammond's student
The 'mister' in question is Dr. Hector Hammond, portrayed in the film by Peter Sarsgaard. Hammond's role in
Green Lantern appears to differ slightly from the DC comics it is based off of, where he was a government contracted scientist before turning villainous.
For this movie, fans have been speculating that Hammond is instead a college professor, due to several scenes filmed at the University of New Orleans Science Building. This addition to the cast, and the title associated with it, seems to validate that assumption.
Deke Anderson - 4-Star General
A recent, unofficial set report made by on of the
Green Lantern movie extras confirms Mr. Anderson's military role for the film. He was seen alongside Tim Robbins (Senator Hammond) and Jay O. Sanders (Carl Ferris) as they were being transported to an aircraft hangar for a scene involving the debut of an experimental airplane. For film purposes the hanger resides on the fictitious Ferris Air, a private aircraft testing company contracted to the government.
The movie's leading man, Ryan Reynolds, was set to appear in the scene as the adult Hal Jordan, which proves this particular part of the film takes place in 'modern times' as opposed to being a flashback.
Griff Furst - UCAV Pilot
The X-45 UCAV is a real-world Unmanned Combat Air System, created by Boeing, that will be slightly modified for use in
Green Lantern. It is the plane that Ferris Air CEO Carl Ferris (Jay O. Saunders) unveils to Senator Hammond (Tim Robbins) and the above named 4-Star General.
According to the early drafts of the
Green Lantern script, the UCAV scene is a pivotal part of the film, especially for it's hero, Hal Jordan.
Joseph Cintron - DEO Agent #3
In DC Comics mythology, the DEO (or Department of Extranormal Operations) is a covert government agency which monitors those with metahuman and supernatural powers, in an effort to prevent any threat to the general public. We've already learned that actor Armando Leduc,
had previously landed a role as another DEO agent for the film.
It is rumored that Angela Basset's character, Dr. Amanda Waller, may be involved with the DEO and not be the head of the clandestine agency Checkmate for the film.
Other additions to the cast include a dozen or so "party-goer" extras who spend several weeks filming an, obvious, party scene on the rooftop of a New Orleans high-rise. Also, popular Hollywood stuntman Jeff Wolfe has been assigned a name for his role in the film: Bob Banks. The extent or size of his role has yet to be revealed.
Green Lantern will continue filming through late August, 2010; and is scheduled for theatrical release June 17th, 2011.
