There Will Be No More GREEN LANTERN Movies - Just In Case You Were Still Wondering!

A "rumor" did the rounds last week that plans were moving forward for a sequel to WB's take on Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds. We didn't cover it here (because it was clearly horseshit) but just in case anyone was taken in, here's what the movie's writer Marc Guggenheim had to say..

Late last week Cosmicbooknews posted a report which claimed they had "exclusive" news on the planned sequel to the disappointing Green Lantern movie. The site used information from a brief plot outline from the movie - which WAS planned before the first one's critical and commercial failure - to outline a supposed script draft for a sequel they maintained was still to go into production. Obviously this wasn't true, but some other sites did pick up on the story. One such site was Comicbook.com, and after reaching out for clarification to one of the screenwriters from the first film, Marc Guggenheim, they received the following response..

'absolute bullshit'.

I think that pretty much clears up any confusion. Of course, hopefully we will see Green Lantern up on the big screen again in Warner Bros. Justice League movie, but that'll be it for the solo outings - at least until after 2015, and providing Justice League is a big enough success.

GREEN LANTERN could've been such an awesome movie franchise, something that could've been highly praised from the WB/DC camp other than Superman and Batman. Oh well.......what a shame

Sad they made GL's first outing so bad. They could have done something really special.

Next GL I hope they learn their lesson. More cosmic stuff, less Earth. That was really the only thing wrong with GL. Everything that was in space was pretty good it's just the Earth scenes that were atrocious.

I didn't buy Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. I mean he wasn't terrible in the role, I just couldn't picture him as Hal. I always thought they could have made a better casting choice.

I liked Ryan Reynolds until he played Hal Jordan...now im very meh about he. Kid shouldve never been cast in the first place. The movie seemed rushed anyway, and not well thought out. It reminds me of a cbm pre-Mcu influence

If they wanted a sequel, they shouldn't have made such a terrible movie.

Latino review are credible, reputable site which post a hell of lot more scoops that turn out to be true than not, only occasionally getting some bad info from their sources..so, your point?

Title is kind of misleading. It should be there won't be any anytime soon.

Yeesh, these titles are becoming more and more extreme. There are currently no plans to make a Green Lantern movies. It's like the Hulk but less positive.

As for Geoff Johns tweets. Well he was on the set but it's not like he was watching the movie. The sets were probably awesome and it didn't show in the final product. He probably got tweeted to the Oa sequence and suckered like the rest of us.

Though I hope the WB realizes that the movie did poorly because most didn't it consider it very good versus no one wants to see a Green Lantern movie.

I didn't think GL was awful, just very disappointing. It had its moments.

While I'm sure its true that there wont be another GL movie till after they re-establish him in Justice League or something like that.

One of the writers saying "bullshit" does not confirm it, just means that this particular writer either has no information on it or is not being included in any talks about future films since the one they worked on was a total shit fest and they rightfully shouldn't include the idiot lol

Hey, at least that rumor Fan Fic article gave me quite a good laugh...

And yes, Green Lantern may be pretty bad as a movie alone, but the amount of disappointment was a lot more unbearable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a soft reboot after Justice League.

Y'know, to completely reboot the whole thing and let Mark Strong as Sinestro go to waste would be a far greater shame.

They should of made Green Lantern like a Lethal weapon in space, break him in like a rookie cop.

Absolute Bulls**t this title!!! Of course we will see Green Lanternon the Big Screen again. WB have say at last "We will never give up our Green Guy!" They will be more stupid than ever if they dont did this. GL is one of their most reconaisable Charcters and after Bats and Supi the most interesting Hero in DC assemble. After the Justice League it will go on. They will pick this way like MARVEL did. Introduce a new in JLA and make another solo movies. Ryan is definitly out of that role. No doubt. But the real GL will be coming. So stop this STUPID Titles (...no more GL stuff..) Totally damn >:( ...*+'#"%$& !!!... your self!

DC can't make a good movie except when it comes to Batman.
Coldblood6
Coldblood6 - 11/19/2012, 8:15 AM
Good idea by WB.

Green Lantern never had even the slightest potential to become a successful franchise. The character and the mythos is too silly and cheesy and has minimal mass-market appeal. It's something for comicbook fanboys only. Some things don't translate well too live action and don't belong on the big screen.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 11/19/2012, 8:15 AM
There were obviously not going to be sequels to Green Lantern, anyone with half a brain knew that anyway - we posted this just to debunk the rumor which was believed by quite a few people, and to make stop sites and bloggers from picking up stuff from dubious sources in future.

And by "no more Green lantern movies" I mean no more sequels to the first Green Lantern, obviously there will most likely be a reboot at some stage.

I hope that all the WB executives shit themselves to death. It was their interference that "hammed up" the Green Lantern film. They acted like it was a money machine that would just crap out hundred dollar bills in merchandising, no matter how little of an effort they put into the writing, casting, and directing. They couldn't have done much worse than if they had done the Jack Black version. This really pisses me off, as the Green Lantern is one of the films I really wanted to do well.
