Tyrese Gibson Continues His Crusade To Become The Next GREEN LANTERN

Tyrese Gibson has been campaigning to play 'Green Lantern' for months, even claiming he met with Warner Bros over the part. Reaffirming his interest in 'John Stewart', Gibson recently addressed the ongoing rumors, while teasing more developments to come down the line...

It's no secret that Tyrese Gibson wants to be the next 'Green Lantern'. The Furious 7 actor has been campaigning for months, informing anyone who'll listen that he'd be happy to suit up as 'John Stewart'. He's even hinted at more serious developments happening, including a meeting with Warner Bros over the part. For now, it's unclear how close he is to actually getting the part, but it's hard not to admire his enthusiasm for the role.

On Wednesday, following rumors that Chris Pine would in fact be playing 'Hal Jordan' in the DC Cinematic Universe, Gibson posted an interesting piece of fan-art on his Instagram account. The image showed he and Pine suited up as members of the Green Lantern Corps (and can be viewed below). He was later approached by Entertainment Tonight about the picture, where he continued to play coy about his potential involvement with DC:

"There are certain things I can't speak on, but I will say, however this works out, it's definitely the fans' fault. I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it. I've been a fan of the Green Lantern. I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We'll just see what happens."

"Listen, these muscles are here and they're ready to be used. There are lot of people, domestically and internationally, who's got love with your boy... I'm coming into this thing with some fans and some box office receipts behind my name and I say that proudly and humbly. I just think I deserve a shot at suiting up and becoming the Green Lantern."

Additionally, when asked by ET whether he'd appear at the WB's SDCC panel, Gibson responded: "You never know, I might be there on the other side of an announcement. You never know."

It's quite possible that Tyrese is just playing games with the media to grab WB's attention, and rally more support from his loyal fans. That said, this tactic is rumored to have worked for his Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel in securing a deal with rival comics company Marvel. What do you think? Are DC/WB seriously looking at Tyrese to play John Stewart? If so, is he the right man for the role? As always, be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below!

I don't know about him playing Jon, does he have a role where he plays a serious military type?
It's not just about box office and bringing in established fans, you know, there needs to be good acting

He could pull it off with a solid direction to guide him, I dunno, personally he's not my first pick

Shoutout to @Brainiac13 for the tip! :)

@aXe - I'd say I'd be okay with his if he had Pine to work with. He's a good ensemble player, but I can't see him as a lead. And yeah, I agree he needs a good director to get the best out of him.

The biggest role he should have in a Green Lantern movie is Ch'p.

Why do people want him to be John Stewart so bad?! He's a [frick]ing horrible actor. He's fine for Fast & Furious and Transformers but I really think he'd be a terrible choice for ANY CMB.

Im all for him as john, there may be one or two better suited actors but if you put him next too pine and some other actors he wouldn't be burdened with the whole weight of the movie. Please make Green Lantern Corps sooner then later

What a Drama Queen.

"Minding my own business?"

There are tons of fan arts by the fans for other actors too as their beloved characters, they don't "take the oath" and campaign for it. I'll be really pissed if he succeeds in getting the role.

He's pretty much the same character in every f*cking movie. His acting stinks!

this is sad. An irrelevant actor begging for a role in a movie that will never get made.

No thanks, but good try. Definitely want someone a little more mature and cool headed for Jon Stewart. Tyrese is a hot head actor. He's always yelling.

An actor that is in serious contention for the role and is having talks with the studio would never mouth off the way he is, this cements the fact he will NEVER get the role and I for one am very relieved this actor is going to stay far away from DC properties. Common though, he's proven himself to be a pretty capable actor with a certain gravitas.

I wonder if he seriously thinks that people love F&F series because of him.

If they just cast him out of the blue and none of this campaigning ever happened, I'd be okay with it. I'm usually pretty open about casting choices. In this scenario however, I don't want the squeaky wheel getting the grease.

Tyrese needs to disappear. NATE PARKER FOR JOHN STEWART!

Tyrese definitely looks the part but Jon Stewart is a very serious character in the comics. All of Tyreses roles have been very comedic in nature. I'm not saying he doesn't have the chops to play the part, all I'm saying is that I don't think I've seen him play a serious character. If WB/DC does plan on introducing Jon Stewart in the DCCU, I'm curious to see how Tyrese will tackle the role if he gets casted. As far as Chris Pine is concerned, I think he is a shoe in for the role of Hal Jordan.

@TronVin cmon man, compared to the likes of Idris Elba, Nate Parker, Omari Hardwick, Laz Alonso, etc

He had a starring role once in WAIST DEEP, and he blew it.

But he kinda lost me with, " I say that proudly and humbly." Oxymorons give me headaches in the morning

Those four actors have nothing to do with what I said. John Stewart shouldn't even be the leading character of any film anyways.

@Rulk

They have one set for 2020, so they definitely still have a chance to pull out of that if they aren't confident in the property. I think the idea is to get GL popular again by having him appear in Justice League Parts 1/2 and if that works out spin them off into a GLCorps movie.

That he's still campaigning so hard is complete proof he doesnt have it and was never considered

I bet Nate Parker is already John Stewart just like Pine has been Hal Jordan for months
