In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallaxhe will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green Lantern is set to be released on June 17, 2011!

I wasnt really all that excited for this movie until I recently sat down and read the entire Geoff Johns run on the comic book. Then, I realised just how hideous the costume that was revealed on that EW cover is. And earlier today, I saw that shitty looking lantern and now feel almost as negative towards this movie as X-Men: First Class. (ok, maybe not THAT badly but you get my point) Here's hoping the cast will be able to save it because Reynolds looks/sounds beyond perfect for Hal Jordan while the director seems to be getting the entire look of the movie wrong. I want white gloves dammit! :P

@JoshW I know you're entitled to your own opinion....but you argument is so "4 months ago" old. I can't wait till the Rotten Tomatoes review comes back for this and Thor. DC is GOING to Win! Green Lantern is gonna be the sickest of them all in 2011!

@joshw I have to disagree with you. At first the lantern and costume was sort of off-putting.but I don't think the movie will suck though. Besides, the look has kind of grown on me

Sorry guys, but to me, this looks a hell of a lot better than the style the movie is going for. I just do not like the look of the suit we've seen on Hal or any of the alien Lanterns. CGI was a good idea, but they've just got the look totally wrong IMO!

The EW costume won't be the final version of Hal's suit. And even then, I like the suit on that cover anyway. And I'm so glad they got rid of the white gloves, just like Reynolds said at SDCC, they are lame.

The Lantern looks cool, and it's one shot from one angle. The quality of the shot isn't even good. The look of the film is fine, especially after seeing the concepts for all the different Lanterns, which were nothing short of fantastic. I'm looking forward to this much more than Thor or Captain America anyway.

And that music playing reminded me of the theme from Batman '89.

They cant translate the original cb suit to film without looking ridicolous. They made absolutely the right choice with the suit!

@Jazzman James Newton Howard is doing the score.

Ryan Reynolds is now Hal jordan. And @JoshW you got to be open to interpretation if you want to see comic book heroes on the big screen. In every one of Batman's movies he has don armor instead of his usual kevlar under cloth. Also The green Lantern costume of the comics would look kinda cheesy from the comics and this movie is taking more into account of the ancient alien constructs of the guardians. It would only make sense to have this because the guardians were at the center of the universe in Crisis of infinite earths and DC seems to be really trying to show how old and expansive its history is.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 10/18/2010, 3:10 PM
I'm fine with them making changes to the costume because as with 99% of comic book characters, a direct adaptation would look plain silly. However, I'm just not a fan of the "symbiote" type look which was described by someone at MTV when it was revealed as a full body green ribbed condom. I get that they want to make the costume and lantern look alien (which makes perfect sense) but they've gone off in their own direction a little too much for my own personal tastes. I still think it will be a great movie, but at this point, I'm still not entirely happy with it's look. :)

superman7 - 10/18/2010, 3:43 PM
@ joshw:

I agree that if it was solid green and looked like that, it would look bad. And i did not like it when it first came out.
But they've said numerous times that that suit was not the final rendering. They said the "ribbed" look is just the suit (kind of) highlighting his musculature and imitating it. It's supposed to look like it is his actual muscle structure.
And it will not be entirely green. It will look a lot like this:
Photobucket
They've also said that the muscle outlining 'highlights' will fade through the movie as he gets used to the ring and as the ring adopts to having an earthling host.

As a fan of GL for almost 20 years, I'm okay with the power battery design and the costume. I actually prefer it that way, rather than have him carry an actual green-painted steel lantern, 'cause it would look too out of place with the costume and probably the set designs too.
