James Gunn Meets With DnA On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

This news should bode well for fans of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's(DnA) epic run on the Marvel cosmic line. Director James Gunn has revealed that he's recently met with the pair at Marvel's UK production offices for GotG.

By MarkJulian - Feb 21, 2013 10:02 AM EST

James Gunn has apparently met with Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning to discuss The Guardians of the Galaxy. The comic book duo were responsible for such noted arcs as Annihilation: Conquest and War of Kings and are credited with reinvigorating Marvel's cosmic characters in the late 2000's.

"With the reimaginers of the Guardians of the Galaxy that I am currently reimagining - Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett! We showed them around the production office today to show them some of the amazing stuff they inspired! We wouldn’t be making this movie without them! AND they’re super nice guys to boot!”

Are they just visiting or will they be consulting with Gunn on the film? I can't think of better brains for Gunn to pick when it comes to the GotG.

This is good news. This further suggests that the movie is gonna take from DnA's run on the comics, and not the new Marvel NOW run.

Honestly, this is my most anticipated Phase 2 film just because of how different I think it will be from Marvel's other films.

I'm all for this film! It'll set up some the greatest galactic characters Marvel has and can pretty much run wild without upsetting a broad fanboy-base. Just don't get too "Saturday afternoon" with it.

DnA made it happen! Love all of their cosmic work, so... SO stupid they ever got taken off, and even more so to give the new series to Bendis! >o< major WTF.
So happy to hear DnA were consulted and hopefully can provide insight over the course of production. Praying the concept art released some time back will be the official look... if they go Marvel NOW! on us, I wont see it in theaters.

Even though it will make more money if he is in it, please don't let Iron Man be apart of the team. Nothing against the character but I think we need to let GOTG get up on its own feet, they have such a good history before the Marvel NOW!

Oh hell yes this is great news. I absolutely adore DnA's run on GOTG and if he's picking their brains that can only be a good thing. And yes I agree @Keef if they go all Marvel NOW for the character designs I will boycott the heck out of it. Star Lord without his helmet=no ticket purchase.

Oh and Iron Man better not have more than a cameo, this team can stand on its own we don't need RDJ (as much as I love him) hogging the spotlight for this one.

@batz Honestly they should have him cameo (and show it in the trailer) and market this properly and it will do just fine. All they have to do is put "from the Studio that brought you The Avengers and the Iron Man trilogy" in front of every trailer and fill the trailers with action.

I don't want a brainless action flick but action is what gets the general public interested. Then do some promotion with sporting events, highly watched TV shows, etc. and the general public will eat it up.

This is great news. Especially since I heard they had a great run on GOTG and other cosmic titles!

I don't think Iron Man will be in the GOTG movie.

I have faith in James Gunn after seeing some of his work.
And GOTG isn't really as silly a concept as some people here make it out to be sometimes.

well... I hope they don't re-imagine the re-imagining too much. All I gotta say is the "Galactus bomb"! I hope they dont do the Annihilation stuff unless they can do it right. but how can they if fox still has the rights to 2 interstellar bad asses? Im just sayin... those Heralds aint nothing to play with.

If they can equal the same quality, mindblowing epic story, insane visual action thing that the annihilation saga was in the comics...

That would be the biggest, most badass movie ever known in human history.

@12:46pm & 12:48pm: Good posts Kamen!

I would love to see Adam Warlock on the silver screen! Notice how I said silver..., and I think Nova.., come on! Nova has been a cool character and the recent work with him has been great! Is that too generic? Do I need to site pages and panels now? :-P Some posters kill me.
