Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

This movie has one week to do what it can in the tail-wind of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Hercules and Jupiter Ascending. Then it will be trumped by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and all those generations of fans its had from that silly 90's cartoon.

No film will probably sell more merchandise to gullible kids and sentimental adults this year than TMNT. Sorry Rocket Rat!

Didn't you say Thor: TDW wouldn't see $600M? You getting your CBM predictions from the horoscopes or Tarot cards?

Once again, people still trying to predict the success of a movie or how much it'll make.lol

Anyway, It's good that we're starting to see some merchandise for this movie. I wonder if we will see toy pics by late spring?

SN: I REALLY think we're getting a GOTG trailer real soon!

@Enphlieuwince

Yeah I'll admit I was wrong about Thor passing $600 but I've been right more often than not when it comes to box office predictions. This movie will be an indulgence for fanboys but most people, hell most comic buyers don't know or care about GOTG. It will have a hard time pulling the non-geek following that salivate over anything Robert Downey Jr appears in by Marvel. The kids whose parents grew up on TMNT are gonna be looking forward to that movie along with their mom's and dads.

And its not just TMNT, the week after it'll have to deal with Man-Crush movie of the year for fanboys in Expendables 3, this time with Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Nicholas Cage, Harrison Ford, Jackie Chan and Mila Jivovich all in tow. The week after that is the long awaited Sin City follow up so unless GOTG has some miracle box office opening, it's basically gonna fight to make box office at the busiest time of the summer.

Unlike I should add, Thor (which opened in November) and Avengers or Iron Man 3 (both opened in May) which avoided all the summer box office mayhem. The studios obviously think they have a huge Jar Jar Binks sale to kids with Rocket Raccoon so are depending on that summer release to make the most of merchandise sales.

Expendables and Sin City won't effect GOTG's box office. Both are R-rated movies. TMNT will though.
