Ooga-Shocker! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Soundtrack Tops Billboard 200

Welp, here's a surprise. The soundtrack for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It's the first soundtrack to claim the top spot with no original songs.

Last week, Nielsen SoundScan reported that the soundtrack to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 list with 60,000 units sold. In its second week, the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 sold a whopping 109,000 copies. That's an increase of 83 percent from last week's tally. That impressive figure also places the soundtrack at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.  It is the second movie soundtrack to top the charts this year, as Disney's Frozen did the same. This is the first time since 2009 in which multiple movie soundtracks have claimed the top spot. In that year, three films did the deed - Hannah Montana: The Movie, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Michael Jackson's This Is It. Guardians of the Galaxy's soundtrack is bit more unique as it is the first time a soundtrack with NO original songs has accomplished the chart topping feat.

People might not realize it's admittingly a mix of some very bad music.

No surprise that.

It stacked the deck with popular nostalgic songs.
It's like an actual mix-tape of good stuff.

While it isn't exactly original music for the movie, it was actually a smart move to do it this way.

It gets the audience in a certain mood when they hear what they know and love.
Really helped me to enjoy the movie a lot more than I might have with a different soundtrack.

@DrKinsolving that is the main song that I'm addicted to on the soundtrack. That and "Spirit in the Sky".

MrCBM- I know, dude. I am absolutely brokenhearted.

I also feel that any cosmic adventure should feature the soothing sounds of Miley Cyrus. Yes, croon.. croon, CROON the stars to sleep.

Where nobody can hear her.

I like Tom Petty. I got no beef with him. I mean, he owes me 13 bucks, but I still dig his music I guess.

Critically successful. Financially successful. Now the SDTK is number 1 on the billboard.

Nice Trifecta
