SCOOP: Could These Three Actors Be Up For 'Drax The Destroyer' In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

So far, we've only heard casting news about the leader of the space epic, but now we've got word of three faces you may recognize that may be in negotiations with Marvel Studios to portray 'Drax The Destroyer' in Guardians Of The Galaxy, which you can find out after the jump.

ComicBookMovie.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned the names of three actors who are currently battling for the role of ‘Drax The Destroyer’ in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy feature film. A source very close to production has let us know three faces who want to take on this titan, as well as a name that Marvel is “still high on” for Star-Lord.

L to R: Wade, Bautista, Mustafa

According to a source, Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade and former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista are all in negotiations with Marvel for the role of ‘Drax’ in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Dave Bautista recently starred in RZA’s Man With The Iron Fists, Isaiah Mustafa is known as ‘The Old Spice Guy’, while Brian Patrick Wade is known for 2006’s The Guardian.

Here's some basic backstory on the character. ‘Drax The Destroyer’ was an average human male named Arthur Douglas, whose family was murdered by the Mad Titan, Thanos. A being by the name of Kronos took the soul of Arthur Douglas and placed it in a far superior body to challenge the super-villain known as Thanos. We do know, however, that Drax’s backstory will be ‘updated’ for James Gunn’s future film adaptation.

Could there be a new frontrunner for Star-Lord in The Office's John Krasinski?

Our source also notes that Marvel is looking at John Krasinski for Peter Quill/Star-Lord, but there is no guarantee the deal will pan out as we’ve seen a ton of names bounced around so far. The film will also heavily rely around Star-Lord, with Drax and Gamora being important characters as well.

Out of these actors, which do you most want to see hit the big screen as ‘Drax The Destroyer’? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below.

Great scoop fellow Jr. Editor. Brian Patrick Wade has the look for Drax no doubt. Watched a couple vids with him acting. He's not terrible....

Dave Batista would make a good Drax.

I wouldn't want Adam Warlock showing up until Thanos builds up enough. Those two need to have some sort of parallel growth between each other.

@AlexLynch Wait, why would Nova be an antagonist? He's always been a good guy in the comics. As far as I know, anyway.

I've never seen any of them act except for Isaiah Mustafa and I still think he should be Luke Cage. PHASE III, MARVEL! STEP ON IT!

Out of those three, I'd probably go with Wade.

Mustafa would be better for Luke Cage, and as far as the other guy goes, keep wrestlers as far away from these films as possible.

Haha..old spice, commercial guy. Gotta give it to Wade man. He's got the best look and the best acting skills of the three for Drax. And theres ALOT of actors up for the role of star-lord O.o...this is getting exciting, I'm waiting to see who gets it.

I say they should make a solo Warlock movie. My favorite hero deserves the proper development.

@AlexLynch Well, they could have Thanos as the antagonist, but the Guardians maybe won't actually beat him in the movie. They could stop his plan, but not him.

My vote would go to Wade but even though I think Kranski is a good actor I don't think he is the right actor to play Peter Quill

Good scoop, TheAlexLynch@.
These are interesting choices. This says, to me, that they're gonna be going for a more [frick]ed up '90s Drax.

Nice stuff, Alex. I honestly don't know much about the character (well, and the team as a whole), but maybe out of the three, Mustafa is my pick - if he was close to being Luke Cage, then he should be fine for Drax. I liked Batista during his WWE years - although there's only a tiny bit of it that I remember - but I'm not sure if he really can act well for a big-screen movie. (Wasn't he in Smallville once, though?) While I've never heard of Wade, but he doesn't look so bad.

@Fabius: Great pick with Cillian Murphy! I love that guy. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing John Krasinski in the role. He's a great actor and deserves to be more than "Jim from The Office"

superpooper

I would not have thought of it, but after seeing Krasinski being considered for the role I'm going to go ahead and put my money on him for getting it. I'm not super familiar with the character, but something tells me it's going to be him. He's more recognizable as an actor, and I think his draw will play a bigger factor with him getting the role. As far as Drax goes, if I had to blindly pick one out of the three it would be the first guy. Bautista would seem like he's perfect for the role, but I personally don't see that happening. He's just coming off a similiar type CGI heavy "big guy with Super Powers" role, and I think that alone would be a big factor in going with someone else.
TheAbomination
TheAbomination - 1/3/2013, 7:53 PM
None of those three should play Drax. Vin Diesel would be perfect.
