When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn shared a behind the scenes photo of the movie's cast on the threequel's set, eagle eyed fans quickly spotted Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji in the background. Speculation immediately started running rampant about who he might be playing, with a lot of wild suggestions batted around.
Silver Surfer, Nova, and even Galactus were among those suggested by fans, though a recent rumour suggested Iwuji will take on the role of Rocket's creator, The High Evolutionary, in the MCU.
Doing the rounds to promote Peacemaker (you can read our review of the three-part premiere by clicking here), the actor shared his thoughts on all the speculation. "I saw those [rumors] recently, I've seen that," he told The Movie Dweeb. "I saw Silver Surfer, I saw Nova, I've seen [many]. For me to wrap my head around the fact that I am the subject of speculation around the Internet is kind of fun. But I have to stay mum, I can't tell you. I'd love to."
The High Evolutionary still seems like the most likely option for Iwuji's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 role, but there's every chance Gunn will surprise us (no one could have imagined Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet or Glenn Close as Nova Prime when they were first cast, for example).
There's a chance his character won't even be revealed until we're watching the movie, but some details are bound to come to light before the year ends.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 23, 2023.
