You Won't Laugh At Taserface After Checking Out These Scary GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Designs

Taserface was considered something of a laughing stock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 because of his name but these drastically different designs for the villain are more horrifying than hilarious.

Avengers: Infinity War may not mention Star-Lord's team in the title but the Guardians of the Galaxy will play a big role in the battle against Thanos. Seeing them assemble alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes promises to be extremely satisfying and we're now taking a look back at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a movie which firmly established this group's place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy introduced us to James Gunn's brilliant take on the group of A-Holes, the follow-up fleshed them out to an even greater extent and gave them new looks to boot.

James Gunn also decided to introduce some new characters and put the spotlight on Yondu's Ravagers. That meant introducing Taserface, a relatively obscure character from the comic books who Marvel had an awful lot of freedom with when it came to designing the villain. However, while everyone may have made of his name, no one would have been laughing at his appearance based on these unused concepts. He looks downright terrifying here and definitely comes across as a formidable badass.

Does each character being in the same stiff stance bother anyone else? Their arms and hands are really getting me going this morning. Are they told to draw each person like this?

@GratefulBat - Well, these are drawings/paintings for the sake of costume designers, so you're not going to want anything particularly dynamic that obscures the cut and shapes of the clothing. Also, (my experience at least) is it's a real pain in the ass to give a figure proper weight and balance to make them look like they're naturally posed.

It just really comes down to resources and time. No need to make the figures feel heavy and natural (because the actors will handle that in live-action), but what really matters here is colors and shapes. Like most fashion sketching.

@Spock0Clock - Ya that makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Gunn has said all bets are off for Vol. 3. I still like Vol. 1 over Vol. 2. I hope he does go all out and murders the previous 2

Taserface was pretty good, although he was one of my least favorite Ravagers that had screen time. I think it was just his look though - I kinda wish they would've went with something more comic accurate. It's not bad, I just know they could've done better:

@L0RDbuckethead - I don't understand why people would want something comicbook acurate for the sake of comicbook acurate.

I understand asking that here is like asking why vegans love vegetables. But taserface isn't iconic, he's not that well loved (barely even known) and his comic look is so jarring with the style made in the movie. It doesn't translate to the big screen. It just doesn't.

Just my opinion anyway.

Checklist:

Costume: NO (he's a ravager so its a ravager costume)

Face: Blue (like Yondu too similar, hence the change)

Mask: Could do, but you've scrapped like 90% of the rest of the costume so is the mask REALLY worth salvaging?

Ring on ears: I think that coulda been done, but at this point its more about the style of the movie and less of translation of this minor character

Hair: Well that was done. But again it fit a certain aesthetic.

The gun for a hand, probably the one thing that MIGHT have been worth saving. But it all comes down to Taserface being a minor unknown character. His role in the film was his name. Lets be honest. Nothing else about the character was interesting to gunn.
