The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major problems for the film industry, resulting in multiple release date and production delays. However, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still appears to be on track despite rumors to the contrary.
James Gunn is still busy working on The Suicide Squad and HBO Max's Peacemaker spinoff, but it looks like he is planning to tackle the third GOTG movie at some point this year.
Here's Gunn's Tweet to a fan who asked if production on the Marvel threequel would get underway in 2021.
It's not exactly an in-depth response, but it does tell us all we need to know: Barring any unforeseen problems, cameras will role on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before the year is out.
Gunn is usually happy to drop teases and reveals about his films on social media, but he's kept relatively quiet about his plans for this next outing for Star-Lord and his team of intergalactic A-holes. All we know for sure is that the main cast are all set to return, and although Gamora was killed off in Avengers: Infinity War, the character is expected to play a major role in the plot. This obviously suggests that the alternate timeline version of Gamora who was introduced in Endgame will end up joining the crew.
We might also see the return of Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord/Starhawk, Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex and the rest of the original Guardians, but that's yet to be confirmed.
