Dolph Lundgren: Superhero Movies Are for "Little Kids"

Lundgren says he's not a fan of the genre, but that doesn't mean he won't dust off his leather He-Man underwear for another go at Masters of the Universe!

In a recent interview in support of his new movie, Universal Soldier: Regeneration, Dolph Lundgren confessed that he doesn't care for CG-driven movies or superhero flicks (sorry, CBMers):

"There's such an outpouring of superhero movies, that I'm not really interested so much in — guys flying from building to building, in funny looking suits. I think it's more for little kids, and that's obviously a very CG-driven film, where you can take anybody off the streets and make them a superhero, and that's what the common man likes, because they can dream about being a superhero."

Lundgren's memory must not be what it once was, because when he was asked about his turn as He-Man in Masters of the Universe, Lundgren said that it was "the only" superhero movie that he starred in, clearly forgetting about his turn as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher:

"Yeah I was wearing leather underwear [in He-Man]. It was very cold on the set, I remember. That was a bit of a superhero, you're right. That was the only one I've done, that was a fun movie, it was a kids' movie. There's nothing wrong with it, that was 25 years ago. There's nothing wrong with those movies, they're fun... I heard about that [remake] a couple years back. They said that Brad Pitt was going to play the role or something. But no I haven't heard about it. There's a new Conan being made, there's been plenty of Punishers, I think there's been two or three after I did mine. There are too many superheroes to keep track of, I'm a little bit lost. But I think it's cool. There's an appetite for the escapism."

And, Lundgren said that he wouldn't mind dusting off the old leather briefs to become He-Man once again:

"Yeah, why not. Why not. [Laughs] Even if I had to put the suit back on, I'd do it."

As for how Lundgren will be able to come back in Regeneration when his character was killed off, Lundgren said moviegoers simply don't care about continuity in movies anymore:

"I think these days, people don't question these things, it's not like back in the old days. Whereas now, if the movie is entertaining, if the character works, you could bring him back 100 times, even if he's killed every time. It doesn't matter, people don't have time to think about this stuff anymore."

Universal Soldier: Regeneration is now out on DVD!
