More From Ron Perlman On HELLBOY III: "I Think It's Something We Owe The Fans"

Hellboy lead Ron Perlman recently seized headlines by rallying fan support for Hellboy III on Twitter. The veteran actor told Variety that while discussions have since moved beyond his control, he's always felt they owed fans a resolution to the trilogy. Read on for more!

It's been seven years since Hellboy II: The Golden Army was released, and fans have been left waiting for that elusive third movie. One man who's never given up hope is Hellboy lead Ron Perlman, who recently seized headlines by rallying fan support for Hellboy III on social media. Ultimately, Perlman's stunt was a bigger success than he could have ever imagined. The veteran actor revealed to Variety how things quickly spun out of his control:

"The discussion has now overtaken me rather than me overtaking the discussion. And here I am in Monte Carlo, working on my suntan, and people are still asking me about “Hellboy III,” so I guess it’s still news. But I’ll tell you the same thing I’ve been telling everyone else, the Hellboy saga was meant to have a beginning, a middle and an end... we owe you a resolve."

"There will come a time where he will have to live up to his destiny, which is to be the beast of the apocalypse, or if he has to suppress that destiny by sacrificing himself in some way so as to not destroy mankind but do the opposite. And that’s the discussion of the third film; I think it’s a discussion worth having, and I think it’s something we owe the fans."

The actor also claimed that he hasn't spoken to Guillermo del Toro "since [he] started this latest round of insanity", but revealed a few details about the director's original plans for the sequel:

"It’s in Guillermo’s head. And he’s shared enough of it with me to know that it will be mind-blowing. I mean it will be mind-blowing. It will be great cinema. And if you are somebody who followed the first two movies, it will be even more mind-blowing because we have something… if you liked the first one and the second one, we have something really rock ’em, shock ’em in the third one."

With del Toro currently busy completing and promoting his upcoming gothic horror movie Crimson Peak (as well as working on a handful of different projects in development) it may be a while before he can turn his attention to a final Hellboy movie. Could the recent fan-demand generated by Perlman convince the talented director to prioritize the sequel?
