Well, guys. Only 13 more days until Halloween. Between now and Halloween, I'll post something releated to the holiday itself. Today, is the five worst horror remakes in history. Keep in mind this is opinion based. I'll put the posters and why I thought they were so bad and I'll include two future remakes that would've ended up on this list should they have already been released. Let's get started.

Number 5. Godzilla (1998)

Why this was so bad: I'm aware it's not a horror movie, but monsters are Halloween releated, so this would count. The reason this was bad is because it literally has nothing to do with the original Godzilla. His background is changed, no fire, and the plot is cliche at best. Is it a good movie, yes. I did enjoy it as a monster movie on it's own. As a remake, it stinks worse then the sewers Zilla crawled out of. In fact, Toho hated this so much, they decided to continue their own franchise with Godzilla 2000 and renamed the creature Zilla. It's so low on the list because I'd rather watch this as oppose to the others on the list.

Number 4. King Kong (1976)

Why this was so bad: Same as Godzilla 1998. While it didn't stray too much from the original King Kong, it ended up having a very campy approach to it and the characters were very idiotic. Kong himself didn't look too bad, but the finale in the city is what had fans angered. He climbed to the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State building. On the island, his fight with T Rex was replaced with a giant snake. Overall, it's not a bad film, but it could've been better as a remake.

Number 3. Friday the 13th (2009)

Why this was so bad: I'm going to get hate for this one, but this is my opinion. I wasn't too sold on the fact that they combined the first few films into one. This made a sequel impossible because they basically told most of Jason's story into one. They could continue it, but there wouldn't be much point. Plus, the teens were cliche as heck. I did like Derek Mears portrayl of Jason, and that in my mind was the only good thing about it. If they had just stuck to the original with Mrs. Voorhees as the killer, then I'd consider it a good remake, because it would be the original done in a more modern way. But they decided to skip that and tell more of Jason.

Number 2. Psycho (1998)

Why this was so bad: I'm aware I have two remakes that came out in the same year on this list. What was good about this would be a better question. It was a complete shot for shot remake and had little to no original material in it. Plus, Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates? Give me a break. Casting a comedian in a horror film will keep the audiance from taking it seriously. Only two new scences were added, but it was still terrible. I guess this is one we all can agree on.

Number 1. Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Why this was so bad: Were to begin? First off, it turned the strong minded characters from the original into Twilight rejects, personality wise. Freddy's backstory is changed to what Wes Craven had in mind originally. We know why he didn't go through with it. It made Freddy far less of a menece and really didn't make him scary. Plus, his make up looked awful. One good thing was the dreams were not too bad, and Jackie Earl Hailey was a good choice for Freddy. In fact, I liked him in the role. Overall, this is in my opinion the worst remake as of now. But there may be a remake that will beat it out.

Like I said, I would include remakes that are still in production as of now.

1st. Leprechaun (2014)

I don't think I need to say much about this one. You can tell by this picture it's going to be bad. The only reason they chose Honswoggle for the role is because his nickname was Leprechaun. Since WWE is going to help in this, odds are it'll be PG-13 and won't be scary in the least. I'll pass on this one.

2nd: Evil Dead (2013)

I put this on here for one reason only: No Ash. It's okay to not have Bruce Campbell not play him since he's getting a bit too old for the role. I think Nicholas Brendon would've been a good replacement due to his role on Buffy and he's nearly identical to Bruce Campbell. But no, they decided to gender swap the characters. If this were a sequel, I wouldn't mind, since they'd explain Ash's deeds in the past as a hero. But what's the point of a remake if you're not going to use the main character from the original? This will proabably be worse then Elm Street, but we'll see.

Well, that's the first day of Halloween. Tomorrow, I'll do the best remakes. And yes, monster movies will be included.

At the time Psycho was made Vince Vaughn wasn't as known as comedies as he is now. He did more dramas and thrillers. It was until He became popular from Old School that he started doing more comedic stuff and has been playing that same character since. So, at that time it wasn't that big of a stretch for him to be cast in that role since it was right in line with the types f movies he was making at the time. Disagree with you on Friday the 13th. I liked the cliche cast. I think it was done on purpose because that is something the 80s movies are so well known for. As far as there being nowhere left to go since they covered the original 3 movies in one, well it's pretty obvious that they would go for something new if a sequel is ever made. Just because there is older movies doesn't mean they have to follow what was happening in them and really it was only very loosely based on those original 3 anyway. With Evil Dead I think removing Ash is the smartest thing they could do. If they had a new actor in that role it would get more complaints than not having him unit at all. I think they are rightfully trying to distance themselves from the comedic aspects of that series which is a good idea. The two sequels really killed what was a good start to the series. Just turned into slapstick movies which is fine for comedy but not for horror. If they want to attract a wider audience then this is the way to go. Other than that, decent list.

Leprechaun is gonna b a joke especially made by WWE films. Evil Dead looked decent from the comic con footage. Id add Halloween 2 2009 2 the list.

Psycho sucked because it was more or less a shot for shot replica of the original. The fog and The Omen def belong on this list.

I feel that the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre should be on the list considering how bad, bland and just flat out boring it was. I thought it was going to end THREE different times!

I'm going to catch A LOT of flack for this but, I think that A Nightmare on Elm Street is the best horror remake. I feel it was far superior to the original. I didn't like the originals just for the fact that they were too campy and about as scary as horror movies these days. Don't get me wrong, I like Robert Englund as Freddy, but I prefer Jackie Earle Haley.

I will disagree with you on Friday the 13th as well. I think Friday the 13th was an excellent remake. Again, better than the original and scarier than any of its predecessors. Derek Mears is the best Jason in my opinion. Sure, killers in a horror movies are suppose to feel heartless and be scary. I felt that Jason in the remake was scary but also you felt bad for the guy at the same time. You can see that he is more than a killer and that he is a hurting soul.

Also, another movie that should be on this list is the sequel to the Halloween remake. H2 was just flat out BAD. About as bad as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.

Guys, I'm aware I did leave out a lot on this list, but I agree with you that the ones you're mentioning were terrible. JokerFanHAhaHA, actually some fans were okay with Ash being played by someone else. However, they'd only settle for Nicolas Brendon due to the fact he's nearly identical to Campbell.

Day The Earth Stood Still remake was shit. The original was one of the best movies of all time. Maybe a little more sci/fi than horror but still it make my list.

I ctually liked Nightmare on Elm street I thought it was a decent horror flick and Jackie Earl Haley was pretty awesome in it. Friday The 13th on the other hand was terrible the only good thing about it was the boobs.

I absolutly hated the Friday13 remake. Im a old school jason fan, and one of the main reasons was his inventive ways of killing people. From shoving a pole through an outhouse, to slamming a chick in a sleeping bag up against the tree. The new one was all about the machete, no diversity in the bloodbath. I also didnt like that it wasnt his mom. The first one was good because of the twist ending. It would have got alot of people who only new jason from the later movies.
