Paramount's A Quiet Place is off to a strong start at the box office, exceeding expectations with a $46 million opening weekend debut. The horror-thriller, which stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (also the movie's director), had received some fantastic buzz coming out of SXSW and has racked up a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It looks like word of mouth is translating into box office success for the film.
According to Deadline, A Quiet Place's 3-day haul is actually higher than Jordan Peele's horror Get Out ($33.3M) and M. Night Shyamalan's Split ($40M) - two of 2017's most profitable movies. Like both of those movies, A Quiet Place was also created with a relatively low budget. While Get Out and Split had production budgets of $4.5 million and $9 million, respectively, A Quiet Place was made for just $17 million.
Perhaps even more impressive is that A Quiet Place's 3-day opening is also outpacing FSS portions of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Ready Player One ($41.7M opening) and Paramount's summer tentpole Transformers: The Last Knight (44.7M opening).
