ARMY OF THE DEAD Trailer Features A Take On Zombies (And The Heist Genre) Unlike Anything You've Seen Before

The new trailer for Army of the Dead has finally been revealed, and it sheds a lot more light on what we can expect from Zack Snyder's return to the zombie genre after he's spent the past decade or so in the DC Extended Universe.

It seems the world has managed to confine the undead to certain cities, including Las Vegas, but something weird has clearly happened during the time they've spent locked up.

As the sneak peek reveals, these zombies seem to have gained a level of sentience that will make this crew's mission to steal a fortune buried beneath Sin City considerably more challenging.

"Army of the Dead takes place following a zombie outbreak that has left Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world," reads the movie's synopsis. "When Scott Ward, a displaced Vegas local, former zombie war hero who’s now flipping burgers on the outskirts of the town he now calls home, is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka, it’s with the ultimate proposition:

Break into the zombie-infested quarantine zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault beneath the strip before the city is nuked by the government in 32 hours. Driven by the hope that the payoff could help pave the way to a reconciliation with his estranged daughter Kate, Ward takes on the challenge, assembling a ragtag team of experts for the heist. With a ticking clock, a notoriously impenetrable vault, and a smarter, faster horde of Alpha zombies closing in, only one thing’s for certain in the greatest heist ever attempted: survivors take all."

The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Garret Dillahunt, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma S. Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy.

Army of the Dead is set to be released on Netflix and select U.S. theaters on May 21st, 2021.

It looks alright, definitely a lot more interesting than his CBM "efforts" that's for sure.

@Desrow

Zombie movies and superheroes....

Very interesting films.

@Desrow - its a well edited action trailer. Who knows if the movie will be as thrilling. Snyder has some of the most moving and emotional trailers in the history of comic book movies, but his movies are wet farts.

Finally.

I'm not the biggest fan of the smarter zombie concept, but yessssss to the fast ones. Always 10x scarier to me and this looks sick af.

I am really excited to see Snyder work outside of the CBM world for now again. Hopefully that King Arthur movie he had in mind comes to fruition.

@Menks123 - I'm waiting for naked running zombies.

Ok, perversion aside, I honestly can't imagine anything more terrifying than a horde of naked decomposing out of shape average people zombies jiggle-sprinting at me.

His zombie film is more lighthearted than his superhero movies, who knew?

I think this looks really DAMN GOOD. He's at home with genre and original ideas.

Turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.

@BlackBeltJones - Has he ever directed an original idea besides “Sucker Punch”? I thought that everything else he’s done has been an adaptation.

@Chewtoy - you are correct, and look how great that was lol

@BlackBeltJones - @BlackBeltJones - Not sure this is such an original idea. Look up Train to Busan presents Peninsula. Just watched the trailer for that last night. Appears to be a very similar plot.

@DirtWolf - Peninsula sucked. I watched it this weekend. It was okay I suppose. But after the incredible Train to Busan you expect a certain level of movie, and Peninsula just didn't do it.

It had a much different tone, car chases with CGI cars crashing and flipping, and it was mostly a story about crazy humans trying to get off the infected peninsula. So the zombies were kind of a secondary threat in it, which is never good in a zombie movie lol.

@CorndogBurglar - That cgi was baaaaaaad. Looked like a PS1 game.

@CorndogBurglar - Damn, that sucks. The original was so good. I guess you saved me a couple hours, thanks.

@DirtWolf - I would still say there's a halfway okay movie there. Its still worth a watch. Just don't do what I did and go into it expecting a near masterpiece like Train To Busan. If you do that you'll probably enjoy it more.

@RickSlimes - Yeah bro. It was bad. And I was surprised how many car scenes there were too. I think there were 3, and the one at the end was soooooo long. I just really wasn't expecting that movie to be what it was.

One of my main issues with Snyder's movies is how self-serious they are. This one looks like it's not taking itself too seriously and could be a fun movie. I'll be watching this when it drops.
GhostDog

@MovieMonster - weird how he find this the space to not be self-serious, which makes sense; its a heist and zombies. Superheroes can be serious of course, but its such a fantastical and outlandish arena, that being self-aware makes total sense too.
