BOX OFFICE: IT Is Already Closing In On $400 Million Worldwide As It Continues Exceeding Expectations

After The Dark Tower flopped earlier this year, no one really expected a whole lot from IT. Well the Stephen King adaptation continues exceeding expectations after remaining at #1 this weekend...

Thing did not go well for mother! this weekend as Jennifer Lawrence had a career worst opening with a paltry $7.5 million. However, bad news for that horror movie was good news for IT as that movie continues to exceed expectations. Dropping just 51%, it earned a total of $60 million in North America to remain at #1. This was a much-needed boost for the box office after an underwhelming summer and it bodes well for the sequel which currently is the works but hasn't actually been officially greenlit.

With a current domestic haul of $218.7 million, IT has passed Get Out to become the #2 horror movie of all-time behind only The Exorcist which was released way back in 1973. The signs are pointing to IT now ending its North American run with upwards of $300 million, an incredible result for the film.

Overseas, IT grossed $60.3 million in it second weekend to take its international haul up to $152.6 million. As a result, it has a worldwide total of $371.3 million and should pass the $400 million mark in a matter of days. This is a huge surprise despite the fact it's based on a popular novel from Stephen King and it bodes well for more adaptations of his work...providing they're handled the right way...

@Supercat6376 - It's more faithful to the book and far more superior to the mini series.

@Jackal - I've heard that. For me the mini series just always reminds me of being a kid. So it'll always be a classic for me. Still remember getting the scared sweats in bed as a little kid .

@Supercat6376 - It really does have that clasisc feel though. If you take out Pennywise its basically a Spieldberg style childrens friendship film like E.t, Goonies, Stand By Me, Stranger Things, and Super 8

@Supercat6376 - im gonna disagree there. The original miniseries doesnt hold up on really any level its pretty laughable as an adult

@Supercat6376 - while the mini-series and Tim Curry have a special nostalgic place in many of our hearts.... Anybody who tells you the mini-seires is a "classic" and is better in any capacity... is lying to themselves.

@Kman - so far all I've heard is how good the new one is. I haven't heard anyone say a bad thing about it. Not even minor complaints so far.

@Supercat6376 - As long as youre not going into it expecting it to be the scariest horror movie you've ever seen... I think you'll really enjoy it. There are some things I would have changed, for sure. But overall, it was well done... and worth your time and money.
