DARKMAN Sequel Gets A Positive Update From DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Director Sam Raimi

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi has been doing the rounds to promote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but The Wrap managed to get an update about a potential Darkman sequel!

As you may recall, the 1990 movie was Raimi's first spin on the superhero genre and his debut studio movie after working on the Evil Dead franchise. It boasted an impressive cast led by Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand, and saw the former play Dr. Peyton Westlake, a scientist-turned master of disguise who embarked on a mission of vengeance after being left horribly disfigured by the mob.

While Darkman wasn't a runaway hit for Universal Pictures, it's become a cult classic that's inspired a couple of direct-to-DVD sequels (minus Neeson) video games, and various comic books.

According to Raimi, "Universal is talking about a Darkman sequel. There’s a producer attached. I haven’t heard the story yet or gone into it, I’ve been so busy with [Doctor Strange]. But I think it’s cool." While it doesn't sound like the director will be heavily involved, he did say that it would be pretty amazing to see Neeson reprise the role. "I don’t know if he’d do it. But he’d be incredible."

This is a promising update and we're hopeful that it will work out better than some other recent remakes. The Darkman franchise has a lot of potential, though many fans are likely to be disappointed if Raimi doesn't have some sort of creative involvement in whatever this next iteration looks like.

Something tells us the director might be a little too busy working on Doctor Strange 3, though!

If Raimi isn’t involved, then what’s the point?

@AnthonyVonGeek - agreed, it almost never works without the original team on movies that were successful.

Jeremy Slater, writer of Moon Knight, would be perfect for Darkman.

Darkman has been living among us for years, adopting different identities, living other lives. He no longer remembers who he is.
