Jarett Wieselman of
insider.com was able to get an interview with the
Suburgatory star, Jane Levy. She was named the new leading lady in the remake of the
Evil Dead just last week. She has been on a lot of people's radar as an up and coming star, someone to watch out for. Now, she has her first big break and of course she is positively thrilled.
"I'm so excited. I'm a big fan of the original. To me it's the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They've changed it a lot, but it's still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can't see it."
"I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don't know that they meant it to be funny ... this one is not funny. It's definitely dark."
Jarett Wieselman of insider.com bumped into Bruce "The Chin" Campbell, who starred as Ash in all three of Raimi's
Evil Dead films. When asked what fans of the franchise can look forward to, Bruce said, "You can expect to have a damn scary horror movie."
If you are a fan of the 1981 original you will probably see plenty of references in the new film. As an example in the first film there was a bizarre, yet oddly humorous scene involving a tree raping a woman, and Bruce hints that you will see some variation of that once again.
"They're not terribly well-behaved this time either."
The Evil Dead will be directed by Fede Alvarez. The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, and Lou Taylor Pucci. It will released on April 12, 2013.
