EVIL DEAD Star Jane Levy Says Expect Plenty of Gore and Little Laughs

Jarett Wieselman of insider.com was able to get an interview with the Suburgatory star, Jane Levy. She was named the new leading lady in the remake of the Evil Dead just last week. She has been on a lot of people's radar as an up and coming star, someone to watch out for. Now, she has her first big break and of course she is positively thrilled.

"I'm so excited. I'm a big fan of the original. To me it's the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They've changed it a lot, but it's still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can't see it."

"I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don't know that they meant it to be funny ... this one is not funny. It's definitely dark."

Jarett Wieselman of insider.com bumped into Bruce "The Chin" Campbell, who starred as Ash in all three of Raimi's Evil Dead films. When asked what fans of the franchise can look forward to, Bruce said, "You can expect to have a damn scary horror movie."

If you are a fan of the 1981 original you will probably see plenty of references in the new film. As an example in the first film there was a bizarre, yet oddly humorous scene involving a tree raping a woman, and Bruce hints that you will see some variation of that once again.

"They're not terribly well-behaved this time either."

The Evil Dead will be directed by Fede Alvarez. The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, and Lou Taylor Pucci. It will released on April 12, 2013.

Can anybody tell me why this shitfest is being made? Why does Hollywood ruin classic movies like this. I am so getting tired of it.

Why can't you call this something else!!!!!!

Honestly is there one person who enjoyed the evil dead movies that actually want to see this. Who is the freaking target audience?? It is certainly not anybody who has heard of the original! Just call this movie something else and I will be happy.

Here's hoping this movie gets canned like Paradise Lost.

Um. The Exorcist is A LOT older and still terrifying.
Evil Dead WAS supposed to be funny. Was Army of Darkness not supposed to be a comedy either according to her?
Few laughs? Its just another horror movie now. Its as dumb as the idea of a serious Munsters remake. But at least they decided to change their name. This is really sad

She's right that the first one isn't meant to be a comedy. The logic of "But Bruce Campbell is in it!" doesn't fly because at that point no one had heard of Bruce Campbell. He was just a buddy of Sam Raimi.

However, the first movie kind of sucked, especially when compared to Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. It was a big mistake on their part to try and capture the essence of the first movie instead of its sequels.

I went and re-watched the first two movies(Netflix didn't have AOD) like 4-5 years ago and I liked the second one much better than the first.

The first one was a traditional horror film with very little humor, while the sequels balanced horror and comedy to great effect, I might add, which is what made them work so well and made them cult classics. Even more so than the first movie.

With everything I'm hearing about this remake, I'm just losing interest more and more. They should be taking pages from the sequels, not the first movie, which is by no means ground breaking in the genre, unlike the later films.

@itbegins2005 I'm not into horror movies as much as I used to be, so that's another big reason why I would rather it not be a remake of the first film.

I'm not saying they have to make it PG-13, I just wouldn't mind some comedy thrown in, you know?

@Duratok That is exactly how I feel.

No Ash, No Raimi, No Humor. Why not call this something else. Don't market it as Evil Dead, when it's clearly NOT.

I'd probably check the flick out if it wasn't a remake and just a homage to Evil Dead with a different name.

I don't even know why Sam Raimi agreed to this garbage. I have a feeling that they're gonna hold back on the gore because studios want PG-13 movies to attract a bigger audience, which contradicts Bruce Campbell's belief that PG-13 ratings do not belong in a horror movie.

And everybody who's seen the trilogy knows that the second movie is scarier than the first.

Yes there is Raimi, Raimi's producing it, overseeing everything... I am dying to see this movie, screw all the negativity... This is gonna be awesome, if you take off the title Evil Dead, it'll be an all new horror movie... which is GREAT! Put Evil Dead the title on it, and you have Raimi's involvement as producer, the idea behind the first one was to try and make the scariest movie of all time, and they only had so much money to do it. NOW there's a Lot more money involved, so they're bringing out the idea to make the "scariest movie of all time" thing again. Which was the PURPOSE behind Evil Dead... THEREFORE MAKING IT.... Evil Dead!

OH and one more thing, it wasn't Sam Raimi who AGREED to this... it was HIS FRICKIN IDEA!! He's wanted to remake this movie for EONS, just needed a story he felt was right, and wanted a Director that he thought could pull it off, and with him producing it, he kinda has the say on that...

Can't rip on the remake until you see it really. Could end up being awesome. Needs a Chin appearance. I would like to point out that half the people complaining on here probably watched every Saw movie in theaters. Ruins your credibility, so quit complaining and lets see what they come up with.

I wish they replaced Lily with someone better? - I haven't seen her act but I just think they could've done better.
Maybe Imogen Poots!

@Jahozafat We all know this is supposed to be a remake of the first film, not the sequels.

Yes, like I said the first film was a traditional horror film. The series' strongest entries are the sequels, which helped it stand apart from other movies in the horror genre. So it makes sense people are disappointed that they aren't taking inspiration from the sequels(cult classics), but the first movie.

AOD didn't have as much horror in at as Evil Dead 2, but this says it all.

I hope everyone who pitches remakes of iconic movies gets hit by a bus covered in used syringes filled with diarrhea

@ RayLantern77 and EVERYONE ELSE COMPLAINING ABOUT REMAKES:

I guess movies like Scarface(1983), Cape Fear(1991), The Fly(1986), The Wizard of Oz (1939) and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) must all suck since they are ALL remakes of earlier films and there's a much bigger list out there but you get the point...

Yeah, remakes are usually terrible but every now and then we get gold so lets wait and see what we get before bashing it. After all, Diablo Cody writing it does give me some hope, early on.

Still, I'd prefer to be seeing a film version of "Evil Dead: The Musical" which is freaking brilliant and highly recommend for any Evil Dead fan.

Ryan Lantern, the guy who pitched THIS remake was Raimi, and being the original creator OF the Evil Dead franchise, you're just suggesting that greatness get smoked by a bus with doo doo buttered syringes. Besides every one complains, until they see a trailer, than they usually complain more, until they go see it.
