Get Out producer Jason Blum is open to the possibility of a sequel to the hit 2017 horror flick. Speaking to Variety about a number of suspense-thriller/horror films, including
A Quiet Place (produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes) and
The First Purge, Blum revealed that
Get Out writer and director Jordan Peele is
"flirting with the idea" of a potential sequel. And if Peele is on board, then Blum says so he is also.
“If Jordan wants to do a sequel, I’ll do it in a second, but it has to come from Jordan Peele,” said Blum.
“I think he’s flirting with the idea.”
Get Out was one of 2017's biggest surprise hits. The film, which was written and directed by Jordan Peele, cleverly tackled the issues of race and socioeconomics, while also delivering the entertainment and suspense you would expect from a horror movie. The result was an incredibly well-received film that went on to receive four Oscar nominations (it won Best Original Screenplay). It was also one of the year's most profitable movies, which never hurts the chances for a sequel.
But even Peele, who has expressed interest in returning to the world of
Get Out, admitted it's not the type of movie you make a sequel to just to make more money.
“Look, the producers and I agree. This is not the kind of movie you make a sequel just to make a sequel and make more money,” Peele
told US Weekly at the Independent Spirit Awards earlier this year.
“This movie transcends the business that it did. So if I can get a story that feels worthy as a follow-up in this world, we’ll do it and if not, then absolutely not.”
Should Peele and Blum decide to further explore the potential of a
Get Out sequel, it will likely have to wait until after
Peele's next directorial effort, US,
starring Elisabeth Moss and Lupita Nyong'o. The plot to
US remains heavily under wraps, but the horror film is due out in theaters March 2019.
