HACK/SLASH Is Now Being Developed As A TV Series

For a long time, fans have been looking forward to seeing Cassie Hack slash her way across America on the big screen, but a new report reveals that Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli's cult horror comic is now being set up as a TV show for Relativity. Click on for the details...

We've been hearing about a Hack/Slash movie for years now, but the latest update from THR claims the cult horror comic will now make its way to the small screen. No cast or director yet, but the show will be exec produced by Adrian Askarieh and Ray Ricord for Relativity Media's new television division, with Skip Woods (Swordfish, Hitman) on board as writer.

The plan is apparently to adapt the comic as a "gritty show in The Walking Dead mold."

"Hack/Slash centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. However, the emotionally damaged girl not only survived but has become a killer of killers. Along with a burly protector named Vlad, Hack travels across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween's Michael Myers, Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger."

What do you guys make of this? Glad we're getting a Hack/Slash TV series, or would you have preferred a movie?

Im not familiar with the comic but the premise of it seems really good, a bit like Buffy on steroids :)

With a good cast and decent writing this would be something I'd watch.

@Chekkarma

I like to see a Chew adaptation, but I'm not sure if iZombie wouldn't negatively influence plans on that. How many CBTV shows about people solving crimes through eating disgusting stuff will the audience want to watch?

Heeeeeey....I did a pin-up for that book years ago!

Glad to see it getting a show, it's a very fun book with a lot of potential for a episodic format like TV. Good stuff!

Very nice Humperdink. Never read this either, but I can definitely see the appeal of a half naked rocker chick killing monsters.

Skip Woods is a terrible TERRIBLE writer, whose crappy writing will really bring down the material. He's next to Zack Penn when it comes to shitty dialogue and plot.

I'll believe it when the first teaser is released. I feel like that's how it's gonna have to be with all these show rumors. The Boys, Preacher, and Hack/Slash are much darker than The Walking Dead. Also, it just seems like some of these are going to be very difficult to bring to life. There's also getting to be an awful lot of these shows (moreso even than in cinema). I'm not opposed to it, I just find it difficult to believe that all of these things are coming.

From DC/imprints: Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, iZombie, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Lucifer, Preacher, Titans/Blackbirds, and Powerless. Those are all showing or on order. There's 8 additional shows from DC/imprints that are currently in development. That's 18 shows that DC would be affiliated with if they all get made.

On the Marvel side: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Powers, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders are all showing/on order. There are 6 more in development and at least 1 more rumored. That gives Marvel 15 shows.

Other publishers already have The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Additionally, I can think of at least 10 that are in some stage of development. That would make 45+ comic book based shows. Either there would be very low quality for quite a few and forcing them to end after 1 season (unfortunately for Constantine, it doesn't even have to be a bad show to get cancelled), or they're going kill each other trying to take audiences away from one another.

Be prepared. The CB TV bubble will soon go pop! Remember all those syndicated sci-fi and fantasy TV shows that saturated the 90's? Yep! I don't want to see it happen, but the inevitable is inevitable.

@dio @Foolsgoldfinger yeah, I agree with you.

I think CB/Graphic novels are just being looked at in the same light as books for adaptation rights, finally. Certain trends will change, but it combines a written and visual medium that will continue to open new doors for storytelling in film and TV.

I really love hack/slash and as long as they can keep the violence, blood and bad language I think this could make a really good tv show!!

@henched

It would be hard to imagine they would make hack/slash without those elements so i don't think you need to worry about it.

but yeah the comics honestly would lend themselves well to a TV format. the arcs could each be adapted in a number of ways.

@Superherodude1

your point is also important. this show, while i would absolutely LOVE for it to happen, sounds like it may have issues getting going. plus skip woods is garbage after i looked up what he's done.

But its hack/slash so I'm still remaining hopeful that someone makes the show!.... god i hope this turns out ok...

Really like this comic series. It's a solid throw back to old school slashers. Equal combination of horror and (mostly dark) comedy.

It would need to be a station like AMC, HBO, FX, Showtime, or STARZ to give the source material justice.

Too bad Marvel got him, cause I think Dave Bautista would be a great Vlad.

also,

I guess it's worth noting to everyone who pointed out that Relativity went bankrupt that relativity TV is separate and is under a new ownership umbrella, meaning that they have new investors.

in the vane of Walking dead??....this should take after Grindhouse

over the top fun entertainment and not take itself too seriously. The story itself is outlandish and so should the style of the show be.

I love the Hack Slash comics, they're far and away my all time favorite series. Especially the original series when they were still at Devil's Due. I think Image tried a little too hard to sexy it up and that took away from the source material. But in all reality I probably (no I for sure) wouldn't even be collecting comic books if it wasn't for Hack Slash. The art in those first one shots was what started it all for me.

I was exited about the original rumors of a movie, but as we know that never came to fruition. Now these rumors of a TV show....... while I'm glad to see Cassie and Vlad getting noticed, and catching some headlines, and I'd like nothing more than to see the pair on screen. I'd much rather see them on the big screen. This series has so much potential as a franchise, and I think allot of that potential would be wasted as an episodic television show.

Don't get me wrong I think it could be a great show, and I'd definitely watch it either way. But as a movie franchise it could be so much more. Something the cinema has been lacking as of late is that great campy horror franchise ie: Halloween, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.... Hack Slash could/would fill that void in a way that nothing else could. It's the perfect choice for this day and age as long as they don't try to turn it into a T&A franchise.

But with all that in mind if they do "have to" take it to the small screen to give us Hack Slash Hollywood then I'd suggest they put just as much thought into channel shopping as they do writers, and producers. A Netflix series would probably be the best way to go. By making it an episodic show they're already ruining so much potential, I'd hate to see even more potential being flushed away because they have their hands tied by the censors.

Like anything else in life, if your going to do it, "DO IT RIGHT" !!! This becomes especially true when converting comic books to film because the people who are going to support you the most, are the ones who have grown to love those comics that your tampering with, and we can be a bit temperamental when Hollywood tries to mess up the characters, and/or stories we love do much.
Do it right, and you'll be praised for a millennia.
Screw it up, and we'll burn you at the stake!
