HALLOWEEN First Reactions Hail The Horror Sequel As The Best Since John Carpenter's Original

Late last night, Halloween screened as this year's TIFF "Midnight Madness" offering, and David Gordon Green's follow-up to John Carpenter's horror classic was a rousing success.

Though some in attendance weren't won over, most have hailed the film as the best since the original, praising the cast - Jamie Lee Curtis, in particular - and Green's direction.

Apparently, Halloween 2018 manages to be gory, funny, genuinely scary, and even moving at times. If there's one recurring complaint, it's that the movie has a bit too much humor, much of it out of place or failing to land.

Full reviews should be with us later today (keep an eye on RT for a roundup), but for now check out some Twitter reactions below.

Green has a bunch of work in his filmography that deserves praise. And he has strong collaborations with McBride (Your Highness aside), so this I'm very excited for. Who doesn't love a damn good horror movie?

Okay now the hype is real! The first Halloween is my favorite slasher and I am so excited to see that Myers is still well alive after its desastrous sequels (beside the 2 Rob Zombie movies)

@Oskir - The Rob Zombie movies were trash.

I'm a huge fan of Halloween and most Carpenter and this film was a worry as I hoped it was not just a pay packet for JLC and a budget slasher in the Halloween series. It seems tha has been answered as a perfect "companion" to Halloween..That just makes me smile....a LOT..

Halloween still chills to this day...JLC is a terrific actress, Michael Myers is the perfect monster and John C is on score..

What more could you ask for..

I'll wait for the Blu Ray (mobility issues) but I'll be waiting with baited breath!!

@manofillintent1 - not until the Victor Miller lawsuit is settled sadly.

@TheSavage - what’s the lawsuit? is it a rights issue?
TheSavage
TheSavage - 9/9/2018, 5:16 PM
@manofillintent1 - basically, Victor Miller wants the rights due to his contribution to writing the first film, Sean Cunningham says it was a work for hire, but couldn't present the contract to the judge in time so it's gone to trial. The judge ordered no new media, which includes films and is what Gun Media says is the reason they con't release new DLC for the game. Until the lawsuit is settled there can be no new Jason films, Series, DLC for existing game(s), no new games, and I believe no new novels/comic books that weren't already in the publication stages.

I’ve been a massive Halloween fan since I was a child. The furs was great. The 2nd was a money grab, the 3rd was what it was. The 4th and 5th were 80’s garbage. The 6th was a great story that I wished they had continued. They didn’t. As far as I’m concerned, everything after Halloween 6 doesn’t count and never should. Especially the Rob Zombie trash.

I trust Danny McBride and the writing team on this new one. The only thing that worries me is the involvement of Blumhouse. They make horrible, garbage, jump scare bullshit movies like the [frick]ing conjuring and that Annabelle crap. It’s trash. I really hope none of that nonsense is included here. I’d like to get some legit opinions on the film. Not from millennial idiots that don’t know the first thing about what makes Halloween great. I still think they should have continued the story following the curse of Michael Myers, but if this sequel to the original does the franchise justice that it so desperately deserves and has deserved for so long, GOOD 🎃
