Even (or should that be especially?) among hardcore fans of the iconic horror franchise, Halloween Ends proved to be a highly-divisive final chapter in David Gordon Green's sequel trilogy.

Most of the criticism seemed to stem from the introduction of a new character named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), who ended up being "possessed" by Michael Myers and going on a kill-crazy rampage of his own after overpowering The Shape (yes, really) and taking his mask.

It was a baffling decision, but shifting focus away from Laurie and Michael's final showdown in the early going may have worked if the execution was better. Alas, a rushed, messy, borderline nonsensical script ensured that what played out on screen was more head-scratching than nerve-shredding.

As it turns out, it wasn't just fans who took issue with the movie.

During the latest episode of their Talk Scary To Me podcast, Scout Taylor-Compton - who played Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes - and Danielle Harris - who played Jamie in Halloween 4 and 5, as well as Annie in Zombie's films - shared their thoughts on Halloween Ends, and it's fair to say they weren't exactly won over!

Here's their exchange (via Screen Rant).

Taylor-Compton: It was a really cool story if it was about a new serial killer and what it was like for someone to become a serial killer ... but then they just kind of threw Michael Myers in there, is what it seemed like to me

Harris: Where are the kills? Where's Michael? What the hell is going on?

Taylor-Compton: Michael was so weak. [Him not showing up until 40 minutes in was] so long for a Halloween Michael Myers movie, and the end, for him not to show up and not be strong as f—.I was mortified when he went into that tunnel and [Corey] almost beat his ass. I was mortified. I almost couldn't look, I was so traumatized about what was happening. [An old and weak Michael is] not the Michael Myers that we deserve. That is not it. That's not the last Michael Myers [movie]. I felt so bad for James [Jude Courtney]. Like, this is the end of your Michael Myers?

Harris: I much preferred [Corey's] kills to Michael Myers' kills. He's the only thing that kept me interested ... but it shouldn't have been a Halloween movie.

Taylor-Compton: I know how hard it is to make movies. I also don't want to offend anybody that made the movie. It's just our opinion. Now I get when people have opinions about my movies and your movies — I get it.

How do you guys feel about the ladies' comments and the movie itself? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

You know this movie sucks if JAMIE LLOYD herself says so!

Movie needed way better kills besides the radio host kill which was awesome. I like that they went a different direction but the execution was terrible for the most part.

I honestly dislike a lot of how they did Michael. If this story was saved up for a movie where it doesn't necessarily have it say ENDS as a way as a finale....I would of kind of liked it.

Other than that...it really did blow my mind the choices they went with. Thank god I saw it on Peacock.

I mean they’re not wrong.

I loved both Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (aside from the “evil dies tonight” chant and some idiotic characters - it’s a pretty perfect Halloween film and I’ll never understand the hate) but this film was not a fitting ending.

I can appreciate the hell out of the big swings this film took and I didn’t hate it but it was a very underwhelming finale for what could have been the gold standard for a horror trilogy.

The problem with this big swing is that it leaves you without answers and the things they leave open were not well fleshed out.

Does Michael heal with killing? If so then why the hell isn't he the hulk after ends instead of a hobo sewer dweller?

Does Cory get possessed/infected by Michael? If so why didn't he use that power before😐?

So many dumbass questions the creators were not smart enough to answer 😐

@AmazingFILMporg - yeah, I agree with all of this. I get what DGD was going for, trying to show the impact that Michael had on the town and using a new character as a vessel to display just that, but doing this in the final film? Sidelining Michael and letting him get his ass beat by a guy who was just getting bullied by high school Bandcamp kids? [frick]ing cringe.

I would rather have this film than a mundane finale but I do wish Blumhouse would have reigned DGD back a little to include more Michael.

Laurie was fantastic in this at least. Jamie always brings it.

Funny how the people that complained about kills making Michael supernatural are the same ones that like kills💁

A man taking alot of damage is way more realistic than a man possessing a guy with his evil and a man killing and getting regenerated😐...

So dumb.

I don't get this franchise fascination to get rid of Michael. They tried it with H3:season of the witch. They tried it again with H4 with making Jamie the new killer and they hinted at it with H6 with trying to make the baby the new Michael Myers.

Michael is the star. Get with it or get lost😐

I actually didn't hate Michael having an accomplice. What I did hate was Michael passing his evil to Cory and Cory being set up to be a new Michael Myers by stealing his mask.

Like, Michael created that look by accident and he created magic. Cory having the same look just wouldn't work. Why would he want Michael look?

Ends asked questions and DDD was too afraid to answer them. What a missed opportunity.🤡
