HOSTEL Director Eli Roth Says He "[Has] A Lot More To Say" With The Horror Franchise (Exclusive)

If you're a horror fan, then we're guessing you're already familiar with Eli Roth's harrowing Hostel movies. The first instalment was released in 2005 with the second chapter, Hostel: Part II, following in 2007.

The premise of the franchise revolves around a group of young backpackers who find themselves lured into a mysterious and sadistic organization that caters to wealthy clients seeking to torture and kill victims for their own twisted pleasure.

Enticed by promises of hedonistic delights in exotic locations, the unsuspecting travellers become trapped and are subjected to horrific torture at the hands of their captors in movies which have become known for graphic violence and gruesome scenes, often involving torture and extreme gore.

The series has a devoted following but the trilogy concluded on something of a bum note with 2011's Hostel: Part III, a direct-to-DVD effort which didn't involve Roth (it did, however, receive the best critical response of the three).

Despite that, most Hostel fans don't view it as a true "Part III" and have been hoping Roth will return to tell another story set in this twisted world.

The filmmaker has since moved on to projects like Borderlands and Thanksgiving and we recently got to catch up with him to discuss the return of Fright Krewe to Hulu and Peacock for its second season. During our conversation, we asked if he's planning his own Hostel: Part III

"Never say never," Roth teased. "There’s a lot of stuff that I’m working on that I just don’t discuss. Let’s just put it this way: I have a lot more to say in that universe and I plan on saying it."

That's a very positive update and one which hopefully means the prolific writer and director has something big planned for Hostel. Now would likely be a good time for a reboot, though we're sure Roth finishing his trilogy would also be welcomed by gore-lovers.

Check back here soon for our full interview with Roth and co-creator James Frey about Fright Krewe season 2.

As the threat of Belial looms large, the Fright Krewe and their newfound supernatural allies, the rougarous and vampires come together for an unprecedented battle to save the world. But with Belial resurrecting every demonic entity known to evil kind will the superpowers gifted to the teens by the loas prove stronger than the diabolical forces unleashed.

Created by Eli Roth and James Frey, and starring Sydney Mikayla as Soleil,  Tim Johnson Jr. as Maybe, Grace Lu as Missy, Chester Rushing as Stanley, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as Pat, and Jacques Colimon as Belial, DreamWorks Animation's Fright Krewe season 2 is now streaming on Hulu and Peacock.

It still bugs me that in one of the trailers for The Green Inferno they referred to Eli Roth as a "horror master".

Hostile films were fun as hell and now with the Epstein case and Diddy case there is a lot of material to make another film🫡

Ah those movies take me back to simpler times, when they didn't try to pretend a bad movie was good, and before RT [frick]ed it all up

He may have a lot to say, but I doubt many people want to listen to a genocide supporting prick like him. He can get in the bin with that bullshit.

@marvel72 - if you ever watch part 3 let me know what you think. I honestly believe if it had a higher budget it would be considered best of the 3

I remember enjoying the Hostel films when I was a teenager, but thinking about watching them now sounds like such a chore. They fall into the same category as Martyrs and A Serbian Film; shock value shit for edge lords to say is their favorite movie to somehow impress people on the internet.

@TheWinkler - Martyrs would be a difficult second watch, I have seen it and yeah I think once could be enough.

@TheWinkler - I agree. However, I do think that Martyrs at least has a plot to offer to justify the gore. It's still gore porn, but it's probably the best instance of gore porn. While a Serbian Film is just sick [frick]ing horse shit for edge lords to say they like, thinking that makes them sound interesting.

I do think he premise of Martyrs is interesting, trying to reach enlightenment. Hostel is just people torturing for the sake of torturing. And A Serbian Film can simply [frick] right off. Zero interest in watching that fifth after reading the synopsis.

@Demigods - I can agree with your point on Martyrs, for sure. It definitely had an interesting enough story.

I feel like all the hate Zack Snyder gets should have been directed at this tool. The Bear Jew has Weinstein energy, dudes personality has so many red flags it's a whole ass red carpet. I don't care to waste another second on his films.

I never got into these films. I could care less for gore porn. When the entire point of a story is shock value then it has very little to offer me, personally. I see too much real life horrid violence to care to see it on screen as the sole driving attraction for a movie.

That's not to say a movie should avoid extreme violence, but rather just have a soldi story around it that isn't just "Watch these people get tortured." Wrap it in some plot at least.

"...more to say..."?

What did the other ones say?

What the F does that mean in this context?
