Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime Revealed: How It Compares To 2019's Avengers: Endgame Explained

Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters next month with Avengers: Endgame Encore, and the extended cut's runtime has now been revealed. Here's how it compares to the theatrical cut released in 2019.

On September 25, Marvel Studios will release Avengers: Endgame Encore. The extended version of the 2019 movie is expected to include a custom introduction, additional new footage, and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX releases.

While many fans are expecting everything from an appearance by Doctor Doom to surprise cameos, we're not anticipating more than a new scene near the end of the movie and a post-credits scene that tees up December's Avengers: Doomsday. That and getting to watch Avengers: Endgame on the big screen again are compelling enough reasons to buy a ticket, however.

Now, AMC Theatres has revealed that Avengers: Endgame Encore will have a runtime of 185 minutes, which is four minutes longer than Avengers: Endgame's 181 minutes.

That's not a lot of extra content, but it lines up with what we've heard about the extended cut's additional scenes. The focus is expected to be on Steve Rogers, who, at Tony Stark's funeral, will talk to Ant-Man about travelling back in time. We also expect Loki to appear during a previously unseen moment of his time working in the TVA.

It's unclear whether these scenes will be exclusive to Avengers: Endgame Encore or if they're clips from Avengers: Doomsday that have been inserted into its predecessor's narrative.

Avengers: Endgame opened to an eye-watering $1.2 billion worldwide six years ago. It broke countless records at the time, many of which it still holds. For a time, Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing movie ever with $2.799 billion worldwide. However, Avatar's re-release during the pandemic saw the James Cameron-helmed blockbuster return to the top spot. That should change when Avengers: Endgame Encore arrives.

"Avengers: Endgame is a masterpiece which not only delivers on every expectation you had but exceeds ones you didn't even think about. This isn't just a movie, it's an experience," we wrote in our 2019 review of the movie.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie features an epic ensemble which includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

If you don't want to wait until September, the theatrical cut of Avengers: Endgame is currently streaming on Disney+.

Hey. You. You don’t want this re-release to push it over from 2.799 billion to 2.8, right?

Takes diehards. Most of us have seen it countless times already anyhow. And after the hate fest that people unleashed on Phases 4 and 5 I'm curious how much money this will make. Probably plenty; but whether it's worth it remains to be seen.
