Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

The Thing will be released on October 14!

@Avalanche731

You do know that it's not a remake but a prequel, showing what happened at the Norwegian base before the events of John Carpenter's The Thing, right?

I L-O-V-E Carpenter's film, myself, but am kinda looking forward to this. The trailers and commercials look promising...

Could be good, I will wait for the reviews.

And for those who keep referring to John Carpenter's film as "The original", remember, his was a remake of the movie The Thing From Another World (1951).

@Avalanche731 as a few other had said, and I hope you understand, that this is a prequel, and not one comepletely original. It simply shows how the original Norwegian team, who found the ship in John Carpenters film, were infected and killed, and I also know that this movie ends seging directly into the opening scene of that movie where the Thing (diguised as the Malamute) is escaping the survivors of this film... John Carpenter totally left it open to a film of its own, we just know basically how it ends.

I hope this lives up to the other part to this. The old original is actually pretty decent. James Arness is the monster (Marshall Dillion on Gunsmoke). I watched the discussion videos about Childes being a thing and hopefully we will see a part three exploring that can of goodies!!!

If it's a prequel, why does it have the exact title of the original?

Trailer looks damn good. Fans are finally getting another horror/sci-fi mixed film. The last attempts to successfully combine both genres was "Alien," and "Aliens." Hope this flick meets or exceeds both of those movies.
