Harker, Last Voyage Of The Demeter, Dracula: Year Zero - and now we can add Sony's version to the mix while we are at it.
Deadline report..
Sony Pictures has acquired a pitch from scribe Jason Keller for a period origin story on the Dracula mythology that will be produced by Joe Roth and Palak Patel.
All that is known about the movie so far is that it's Sony's intention top "launch a period franchise". The origin story may also suggest a take on the story of Vlad The Impaler and the events that led him to become a vampire. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Dracula movie - the emphasis on
good - but what else needs to be/can be done with the story? As far as I'm concerned we have had three of four very good/great versions, the most recent being Francis Ford Coppola's excellent (yes, Keanu aside)
Bram Stoker's Dracula starring Gary Oldman. Can Sony top that? Will they bother trying to? I guess we will see who they put behind and in front of the camera before judging, but for now I really don't see the point.
