WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen is set to trade the Darkhold for an axe in HBO Max's true-crime miniseries, Love and Death.
The streamer has now released the first promo stills for the show, which will retell the story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery’s brutal murder of fellow churchgoer Betty Gore back in 1980. The story "revolves around two couples enjoying small-town family life in Wylie, until somebody picks up an axe."
Patrick Fugit (My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To) will play Candy's husband Pat, with Lilly Rabe (American Horror Stories) and Jesse Plemons (Fargo, The Power of the Dog) on board as Betty and Allan Gore. The cast also includes Krysten Ritter as Sherry Cleckler, Keir Gilchrist as Pastor Ron Adams, Elizabeth Marvel as Pastor Jackie Ponder and Tom Pelphrey as Don Crowder.
Inspired by the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, the show was written by David E. Kelley and directed by Homeland‘s Lesli Linka Glatter.
This is certainly something of a departure for Olsen, although rumors suggest she might take on more villainous traits as the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Love and Death is scheduled to premiere sometime next year.
