Guillermo del Toro Pitching a Take on ABC's Incredible Hulk Series?

Marvel & ABC's tentative live-action series for the "Incredible Hulk" reportedly already has a pitcher in Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro. Check it out!

The announcement of Marvel Studios teaming up with Disney's ABC network is said to adapt many of Marvel's comic properties into live-action television series. And one of those properties being 'The Incredible Hulk,' the studio is reportedly setting the series as a top priority. And now Io9 is claiming:

"Hulk has a "showrunner wanted" [sign] around its neck, and sources are saying that Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick will be pitching a take."

The site further claims that ABC had no comment, neither confirming or denying it. But with great CBM titles under his belt, such as Hellboy, it's sequel, and Blade II, what do you think of Guillermo del Toro pitching a weekly Incredible Hulk rampage?

Great find DCMF! :) I still don't get how this series will work despite how potentially awesome it could be - a decent looking CGI Hulk on TV every week? Just can't imagine it...the fact that Jeph Loeb is involved (one of the worst Hulk writers EVER) does little to fill me with confidence either, lol!

They'll need an actor as strong as Billy Bixby was as Banner. If they could come up with an effective hybrid of comic type stories with elements of the old show -- Banner getting involved with different people out there in the world -- I think it could be pretty effective. No doubt cost will require them to keep the "Hulk outs" to a minimum.

the hulk is one of my favorite charactors.

i'd rather see a big screen outing with the hulk so more money can be spent on the cgi effects.

not end up looking like a smallville reject i.e doomsday & darkseid.

How bad could it be if Del Toro has his hands in it?
If this is possible, I say hell ya.

@deadpool

way to bring in smallville lol
your right though.

id rather see a character/characters that's not as known for a tv series. heroes for hire would be cool

Unfortunately the Hulk movies have not been as successful financially as they've needed to be to warrant additional movies. If they had been, there wouldn't be any hesitation in greenlighting another film. A dramatic TV series, though, with an approach that works both creatively and fiscally could actually be a fascinating show.

The only way for a Hulk show to happen is if they actually get an actor to play the Hulk since TV shows always have a limited budget. We'll see how this plays out.

I would make a good Bruce Banner. That is if they went with a younger one. But on Del Toro, I love him, he is my favorite director, and I would love him to be attached to this. The Hulk deserves a show.

PRACTICAL MONSTER SUITS, DEL TORO IS KNOWN FOR THAT..THAT WOULD BE AWSOME, MULTIPLE HULKS PERSONAS WOULD BE EVEN MORE AWSOME..A GREY HULK A SMART HULK THAT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE.
HelaGood
HelaGood - 10/15/2010, 2:47 PM
seriously, i think we all feel like there needs to be some sense of continuity. so unless ruffalo will do the tv show (which i seriously doubt), they need to do something else.

I love Del Toro's style...I wish he would just hurry, and do Hellboy 3 though....Then he can do this series. I would really like to see his creature effects for Hulk though!

I don't know how this would work honestly, i like a CGI Hulk rather than a body builder. The hulk is just too big for a a human to be playing. However I do understand on the fact that with a limited budget and ABC doing the show this will more than likely happen. I don't however want to see a repeat of the original show, it has it's moments but really it got quite boring at times IMO and I'd like to see more action and possibly some cameo appearances from other heros. I don't really see this show taking off because everyone wants to make everything in the real world and abomination and the leader can not really be portrayed as realistic. It would take the spirt and heart out of the character if they were to try and do that. I'm curious to see how it all turns out!

GDT is also directing the video of me watching TV tonight, so I don't know how he's going to fit the Hulk in.

He did yell "the laws of physics don't apply to me, you son of a bitch" so I guess it's possible.

How do you make this work on TV? With the cgi, special effects, and big budget movie productions we have these days, HULK is way to big for the small screen.

If anyone can pull this off it's Del Toro and his crew. Remember Wink from Hellboy 2?

That was PRACTICAL effects, NO CGI!!! And it looked real as hell and cool as hell. Way better than the Hulks in the movies. Don't get me wrong, I love the Hulk movies (particularly the second). But if this is going to be on TV and be consistently good (and cost effective), the effects should be practical and Del Toro is just the man for the job.

At first, I was completely against Hulk stepping back into TV, rather than concentrating on continuing him in film. Then I started thinking about it.

Consider Marvel has been making plans for their characters since Disney bought them. They now have access to major effects companies and TV networks with guaranteed distribution. The Hulk CGI has already been built and established in film, but his films haven't made big money at the box office.

Now ask Ed Norton if he would consider staring in a new TV series with CGI hulk week to week. If he refuses, hire Mark Rufalo, and start putting the most epic Hulk TV show you can on the air every week, and tie him in to the Avengers film.

Marvel is striving for continuity. My guess is the first thing they asked is "Can we do the CGI, motion-capture Hulk every week for the budget?" When they figured that out, they green lit the project. And if the TV show picks up an audience, then the continued movies are a sure thing.

Whoever makes this TV show....PLEASE don't revert to painting some big guy green. If you can't bring the CGI creation from the current movies to television then DON'T DO IT AT ALL!
