ARMOR WARS Star Don Cheadle Confirms The Disney+ Series Starts Shooting In "A Couple Months"

Don Cheadle will return as Colonel James Rhodes in Armor Wars, and the actor has now shared some insight into what he expects to see from War Machine in the project, and when cameras will start rolling!

Avengers: Endgame star Don Cheadle has opened up on plans for Armor Wars, a series we first learned was in the works during Disney's Investor Day last December. The TV show's existence hadn't even been rumored, and is a separate project to the Ironheart series starring Dominique Thorne.

That character will likely debut in Armor Wars, though, and Cheadle has already confirmed that the show is going to deal with the fallout from Tony Stark's death (which left the world without an Iron Man).

The actor is clearly excited for the series, and shared a big update with ET.

"It's going to be dope. We're really going to have a chance to explore a lot of stuff about Rhodes. I mean, you look at what we've done so far, there's a lot left to be explored. So I think there's a lot of real estate that we're going to dig into. It's going to be just fully wide open. We're going to start filming in a couple months."

"Armor Wars" was a seven-issue storyline written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton, with art by Mark D. Bright and Barry Windsor-Smith.

War Machine is probably going to be the main focus of the series, but Marvel Studios didn't reveal any specific plot details beyond it being, "about Tony Stark's worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands." We can only hope that means Justin Hammer will make his MCU return.

Great modern take on what happens when Tony's weapons get in the wrong hands.

Wanda, Rhodey, Falcon.. I'm sure they're giving them series runs to make up for their lack of actual screen time in the movies, which is good, but it seems a little weird that the women and POC are relegated to the tv side and not the big screen. Even She-Hulk gets the treatment.

@inkniron - Black Widow? Shang-Chi? Black Panther 2? Blade? Captain Marvel 2? Eternals (lot of the cast are women or not white people) You really think women and Poc people are relegated to the tv side? Or you just didn't check like most people do?

@inkniron - As much as I defend representation and inclusion, I don't think this is correlated to relegation of women/POC. It's just the characters. They can't make a movie for every single one and these characters are lucky we live in a world where a studio can give them their own shows on top of the films they're doing.

Black Panther got his own movie.
Captain Marvel got her own movie.
Black Widow got her own movie.
Shang-Chi is getting his own movie.
Blade is getting his own movie.

Loki isn't POC. TV show.
Hawkeye isn't POC. TV show.

@Oskir - @Waddles - @Tonic24k - I agree it is and should be the future. There is better opportunity for long form story telling and more places to introduce characters we might never see in the movies. Regardless, many people, a lot of actors included, see it as a lesser medium.

I never said exclusively relegated. BP was right where he should be and it was nice to see a CM inclusion, although she was mostly inconsequential except for saving Tony and a last minute arrival in Endgame. Let's not kid ourselves though. Up to this point, the MCU has been pretty much white male dominated. I have no illusions or complaints that Shang Chi, and The Eternals are done for diversity sake. Outside of a handful of people, who was really clamoring for either of these? The Eternals are ripe for diversity casting because 99/100 random people you ask, probably couldn't pick one from the comics out of a line up, which is perfectly fine. Poor BW, even though I'm not a huge fan, didn't get her time in the sun until they killed off her character.

The problem with the shows going to streaming isn't even an original complaint of mine but from a family member. After being sidekicks, for lack of a better term, or maybe playing second fiddle to Cap and Tony, Falcon gets to carry the mantle, Rhodey gets to step in for IM, but they don't get the kind of spotlight. There is a new Wakanda show and the other day, people were confused on here whether it is a BP2 replacement or its own thing.

The optimist in me hopes to see a lot of well done, character driven MCU shows streaming constantly in 8-9 episode doses 5-6 times a year, even if they are stand alone, not just connecting directly to the MCU proper

The cynic in me sees demographics say that the theater's target audience and biggest demographic is white males while black people say that if you make good content they would want to see, then they'll go see it. Neither of those is a lie, as we saw with BP. Maybe relegated isn't the right word. Maybe Didney see's it as a targeted opportunity to expand subscriptions to D+ with minorities.

Or, I could be crazy.

And BTW, Hawkeye is Hallie's show and Renner's swansong.

@inkniron - You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. This argument is getting stretched rather thin. I would agree the MCU, like damn near every other franchise in history, is white-male dominated. Which is why, as a white male, I advocate for others to get their due representation and inclusion. But then when it happens, there are complaints that it's forced or contrived in some way or another.

Personally, I see Marvel Studios and Disney as an unapologetic leader in the industry for more representation and inclusion. Hence, all the flack they get from antiquated thinkers whining about progressive concepts. You have to remember Iger and Feige fought Perlmutter on the matter years ago. Now they're able to really get the job done.

Also, these shows are hardly a lesser medium in terms of exposure. (Although I do understand the argument in different terms.) How much screen time does the feature character(s) get in a single movie? Conversely, how much screen time does the feature character(s) get in a TV show? Hour:hour these characters and their respective actors are getting a trilogy worth of exposure from these shows. And btw, Renner is still top billing in Hawkeye.

Now, I'm certainly willing to talk more and reconcile any flaws of thought. But as it stands, I see all this as a big win for everyone involved.

Looking forward to getting his character fleshed out more. I'm also wondering how many of these D+ shows will be one and dones. Honestly, I don't see a need for WandaVision season 2, and if this wraps up Armor Wars nicely, we don't really need another season either. We'll see how it goes though. I'm just curious

@Waddles - Yeah exactly. Imagine that, coming full circle. TV was where careers used to go to die, and now there's TV that's way better than some movies.
But yeah, Loki doing his time thing, and the Captain America side of things being handled by Falcon and TWS could extend for a long time. I'd love for Red Skull or his daughter to show up, Annie Zola, MODOK lol

I've always been torn about Don Cheadle's Rhodey. On one hand, I"m happy to see a different body type portrayed as a hero. On the other hand, he looks so frail to me. He's always been a big guy...at times felt like Tony's muscle. Tony being the larger of two, throws me off.

I'm still hoping for Disney realizing the potential and make direct-to-streaming movies that can dwell on certain storylines. Less effort and budget than series/theatrical releases and still offering new content.
