BOX OFFICE: IRON MAN 3 Set To Cross $1 Billion Worldwide Today

It's a great day to be a Marvel fan when a movie based on a comic book crosses a billion dollars! Superheroes now dominate the box office in ways we could have never previously imagined possible. As for Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3, this is a huge feat, especially considering the fact that the first Iron Man film only made $585 million worldwide. The at one-time considered "B-list" character is now one of only two superheroes to cross the billion dollar mark all by themselves. While the official numbers won't be in until tomorrow, The Wrap reports that:

$700 million from abroad and $300 million domestically -- is a major triumph for Disney. Its decision to bring aboard a Chinese partner for "Iron Man 3" and focus the Disney marketing machine on the booming foreign market looks pretty good right now, too.

Marvel's "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Director: Shane Black

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley

I doubt it will happen, but I would like to see Thor TDW and Captain America TWS to hit a billion as well. Now that I'm thinking about it, they may be able too, just not quickly. I feel like throughout both of their full runs in theaters they could hit the mark.

Anyone else see that a lot of the people who hate this mivie, say they hate it due to its twist, but it seems they also hate many other marvel movies as well.
Hrrm, possibly full of bullshit, must investigate further.

cant see any comic book movie other than The Avengers sequels, Iron Man, Batman and Spiderman making a billion in the near future, Thor and Captain America wont be doing these numbers. As long as the quality of the film is good, then I dont care about the numbers it makes

700 Million overseas? Wow!

I want to say that Thor 2 won't hit a billion, but Thor seems to have a larger following overseas than at home. Wouldn't shock me to see Thor get another 700 million.

WB didn't market to China...that's gonna be tough for them to make as much bank.

Easy when tickets in China for a foreign movie are the equivalent of $50 USD for 2-D and nearly $70 per ticket for 3-D

Hell, 700 might be MOS total Box Office revenue and Iron Man made that just abroad.

Oh well, Man of Steel has 2 more sequels to compete for the billion dollar club.

Good job, it joins POTC 2&4, and Transformers 3 but doesn't mean it's a good movie. It's the equivalent of a fat kid finally getting over the finish line, yet is extremely criticized for how he got over it.

Meh, to say the least.

Happy to see comic book movies getting the recognition they deserve, good or bad.

Probably the only guy on this site to have not seen it yet, but thats what finals week during college does to you.
