IRON MAN 3 To Commence Filming A Week Before THE AVENGERS Release?

While it said principal photography would begin "late May," recent reports seems to contradict that, suggesting that Iron Man 3 will begin shooting much earlier than expected. Check it out!

As we approach the May 4, 2012 release date of Marvel's long-awaited superhero flick, The Avengers, the studio is already readying production for their seventh independently-produced film; Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3.
It was reported that principal photography for the third installment would not begin until after The Avengers' release, in late May, however, questionable sources of ComicBook have learned it will be sooner.

Previous reports have listed late May as the official production start date, but one source told us that Marvel “will have staff in Wilmington as early as mid-March, with shooting scheduled to begin the last week of April or the first week of May.”

“Everyone knows that the Avengers film is the closest thing to a sure thing this summer,” said another source. “People can’t stop talking about it, so it’s in Marvel’s best interest to pump up Downey and Iron Man while ‘The Avengers’ is going full steam.’ “

Considering this may intervene with the colossal amount of press 'Tony Stark' actor Robert Downey Jr. will be partaking for The Avengers, it's possible the above claims are invalid. Therefore, take this news lightly, but if true, we'll know in a couple months.

In addition to Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle will be reprising their roles respectively.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013!; and “Thor 2” on November 15, 2013.

I don't want this rushed like Iron Man 2 (I still like it but it had noticeable flaws). On the other hand, it is in Marvel's best interest to pump these movies out as quickly as possible because RDJ isnt getting younger.

I dont understand why people HATE Iron Man 2. Its was a decent-good film. Yeah disappointing because IM1 was excellent, but IM2 wasn't bad. Heres hoping IM3 is better then IM1

I think based on Shane Black's history he could do something really incredible with Ghost. It's also a character that would allow him a fair amount of creative liberty without contradicting source material too much.

As everyone would, I would love to see Mandarin, but I'd be scared of them mistreating the character... Overwhelmed by a character with a big history they'd probably just turn him into a giant cloud like Parrallax and Galactus...

Hope the rumor is true, can't wait!

In this interview RDJ says that they begin shooting in June *g* - but maybe plans changed over the last two weeks.

He also talks quite a bit about "Avengers" and "Iron Man 3". This time he claims that IM3 could end up being the best of ALL Marvel films ;)

@Nomis

In past interviews Shane Black ruled out Mandarin because he didn't want to risk presenting a "racist caricature".

He may have changed his mind, since I believe that interview was a few months back, but so far I'd say the word is no, the mandarin is not the villain according to Shane Black.

I wish they would have just waited... Pull a Nolan. Give it time. Make people want it really bad. I mean we got 2 Ironmans with the time span of 1 batman. Plus it would give John F to come back. I love Marvel and their films... But seems like they push their movies out too quick. Spend more time developing a good script and less pushing out turds.

@ProjectionistPHiLL Maybe it's because Disney/Marvel have a long queue of superhero films coming up behind Iron Man, unlike WB/DC which mainly have Batman, Superman & ......

ProjectionistPHiLL
ProjectionistPHiLL - 1/25/2012, 11:42 PM
@JohnTom88 oh I understand that marvel has a long queue of superhero films.. And they should do them If they are so deadset on releasing 30 films a year... Just I would rather see a awesome ironman3 four years down the road. Instead of one every other year. And by you only naming batman and superman ur clearly a Marvel Fanboy. Which is fine. But DC has a TON more heros than batman and superman... And hopefully they will start putting more DC films in production. Marvel makes alot of "ok" and "not bad" superhero films... While DC makes movies that win oscars. (excluding Green Lantern lol which still wasent spidy3 bad) look for Man of Steel to be among those Oscar winning films.

them starting to shoot the movie b4 RDJ does his interviews n shit for avengers just sounds stupid. I'm really hoping they do use the manderian in the third movie just cuz he's iron man's arch nemisis and the amount of shit he can [frick] up! but ghost is a cool bad guy too so i'm not really worried

GET IN!

Can't wait to see where the solo movies go after The Avengers.

Now we have the 'cosmic' and 'magic' elements it makes The Mandarin more plausible in the tech-based Iron Man world.

Given that they swapped China for Afghanistan in Iron Man's origin I would love to see Faran Tahir come back and be The Mandarin. It would bring the story full circle. Sadly, he already had one of the rings that Stane and Hammer had...

@ProjectionistPHiLL And Marvel has a ton more heroes than (TON more heros than batman and superman). So still compared to Marvel lineup, DC lineup is small lineup.

My only hope for IM3 is that everyone in an armored power suit can keep his helmet on for an entire battle. I mean I get why IM and WM flipped up their visors in the final battle, but there was no reason for Whiplash to.

USE HIS NEW ARMOR!...

GUNSMITH
GUNSMITH - 1/26/2012, 5:48 AM
EXCERPT MATT FRACTION ON NEW ARMOR :

"The inspiration for the new design came from thinking about a sleeker, leaner, tougher Iron Man," revealed Fraction. "If technology is increasingly getting smaller and lighter it seems like the Iron Man should do the same: ergonomic and aerodynamic. We were looking for something that felt as sleek and glossy as a sports car Tony Stark would covet. I love what we've come up with. It feels like the next evolutionary step in the Iron Man's design."

WHAT IF IT WAS MADE PRACTICAL?
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 1/26/2012, 6:23 AM
I just hope they learn from the mistakes of Iron Man 2 and don't HAVE to rush out to sign the 'hot actor of the moment' to play the villain. For my money, that was IM2's biggest failure. They HAD to have Mickey Rourke because he was THE hot name of the moment, even though he was a poor choice for Whiplash. Pick the villain (preferably the Mandarin-he would be a GREAT change of pace from another predictable armor-based foe AND he's one of my all-time favorite villains) and cast someone who really fits the part.

Okay, I would also like a better script this time. The chemistry between Pepper and Tony really felt forced in the sequel. I'm hoping that Iron Man 3 can be the third film that finally breaks the third film jinx.
