Actor-turned-screenwriter Justin Theroux, who was tasked to pen the mixed-reviewed puzzle to Marvel Studios' cinematic universe in Iron Man 2,

recently caught up with I Am Rogue. Sharing thoughts on the studios' direction with Iron Man 3, replacing Jon Favreau with director Shane Black, in addition to a new scriber Drew Pearce, check out what he had to say.

On any hard feelings of Marvel choosing a new screenwriter for Iron Man 3, "No none at all, I love those guys," the actor replied. "I would totally write something with them again. But it's also one of those gigs where it's better to cycle through voices on that thing," he explained. "If you stay on those things too long as a writer you begin to get a little stale. So I think its better that way and there is a great tradition of sort of screwing the next guy, so to speak, with the next script. It's like, I set up that part and now you take it from there."

On Marvel's direction with Shane Black taking over,"Obviously I haven't seen what Shane is working on yet but I'm super stoked to see Captain America, Thor, and The Avengers too when that comes together.".

For more from Theroux & his next project, head over to I Am Rogue. In the meantime, look for Iron Man 3 in theaters May 3!

@SHHH - Oh come on, he's not Mark Steven Johnson. A little more reworking and that script could have been great. It was still pretty good, in my opinion.

GOTTA CHANGE IT UP TO KEEP IT FRESH..I LOVED ONE AND TWO..JUST KEEP IT IN TRADITION TO IT AND GO WITH THAT ENERGY, KEEP IT IN THE TECH WORLD BECAUSE WHEN YOU STEP OUTSIDE IT, IT MOVES AWAY FOR POSSIBLE ACHIEVABLE REALITY INTO FANTASTICAL..SURE THERES ALOT OF BEYOND TECH STORIES FOR IRON MAN, BUT THEY HAVENT EXPLORED ALL OF IT YET, SO MANY "TECH WORLD" STORIES HE HAS, GO THROUGH THEM BEFORE VENTURING FARTHER, THATS WHAT FAV WAS WORRIED ABOUT, STEPPING OUT OF THE TECH WORLD ASPECT..

He sucked, anyways. He had no damn intellectual elements in the script. Everything was predictable and... Well, it wasn't a smart thriller. A no-brainer, so good riddens.

GUNSMITH As soon as Iron Man steps foot into the Avengers, the more realistic tech world is out of the picture. Asgard and THOR, the HULK- possible aliens. It would be weird if they hopped back into Iron Man and pretended that stuff didn't just happen. I like the more possible world of Iron Man too, but I also can't wait to see how he reacts to all this crazy shit he'll be surrounded by in the Avengers. If anything, they should use the Avengers to take the opportunity to bring in a more fantastical villain like the Mandarine. They've already used two entire films based on the villain making an Iron Man suit. Time to come fresh and a little more crazy.

as long as its nothing like im2 i should be happy. I think he meant to say he was excited in seeing the "ultimates" movie. not the avengers.

He's little more than an improv skit writer. Tropic Thunder and IM2, he basically said, alright, we'll put these whacky characters together, then we'll let RDJ say something ridiculous, and from there we can let everyone else try to keep.

Iron Man 2 is was a victim of Iron Man 1's success. There really wasn't a lot wrong in Iron Man2, it's just that the first one set the bar too high. The fact is as much as people rag on IM2, it's WAY better than most cbm's out there. Comparing it to IM1 is one thing, but comparing to Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Superman Returns, Electra, Cat Woman, both Fantastic Four movies, Wolverine, Spiderman (and X-Men) 3, etc really puts IM2 easily in the top 10 cbm's.

He's a good actor but has no idea how to write a superhero screenplay....he needs to stay clear of Iron Man 2...why can't they just get the team from number 1 again?

From my understanding of what actually happened with the Iron Man 2 script was studio interference. Which is also why Favreau backed out of directing this one because of the intense pressure the studio put of him to "up the ante" with the action. Which, doesn't surprise me in the slightest because didn't pretty much the same thing happen to Sam Raimi with Spiderman 3?

@preacher it's exactly what happened with sam raimi, he said that a few times (dunno how much of the talk was ass covering, but...).

Imho Iron Man 2 was inferior to Iron Man 1, but still a very good cbm. Pretty much because RDJ has the show each time he appears.

I risk saying that Tony Stark has the strongest personality of all alter egos we've seen in any cbm, because of RDJ acting.

Justin Theroux has a big challenge ahead, since I really don't know what happens if he delivers a movie pretty much the same to 1 & 2, or different in concept, guess it will have bashing either way.

Besides we don't know what will the avengers turn out to be, depending of the level of destruction, for example. Imagine if in IM3 he'll fight mandarin who wants to take out the now chaotic world, maybe? OK, now I'm just daydreaming.
