Robert Downey Jr. Makes Brief Comment About IRON MAN 3rd Act

In the latest Entertainment Weekly, Robert Downey Jr. makes a short statement about Iron Man 3 and what he wants for Tony Stark in the third movie of the franchise.

In the latest Entertainment Weekly Magazine, small tidbits of Iron Man 3 are revealed along with the previously released concept art of Stark with armor on only his arm and leg. What could this mean? EW seems to think it's the Extremis virus taking effect.

"What's happening here? The context isn't immediately clear (and Marvel isn't talking), but the image matches the way Stark's armor attaches to him in the 2005-06 comic book series Iron Man: Extremis. The title refers to a nanotech serum that allows humans to bond with metal, becoming biological combat machines."

Entertainment Weekly was also able to catch up with Robert Downey Jr to get a quick quote on what we can expect from the genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist saying that he "radically wants to challenge Stark's identity, rather than just have him battle another bad guy":

"These things tend to, in Act 3, really become about the same old things. So let's really flip that. I feel like I don't know where you go after Iron Man 3. Leave it all on the field, you know?"

Just like us, it seems like RDJ is upset with Stark always fighting armored villains at the end of the film. With things heating up in Iron Man 3 marketing and a panel coming at San Diego Comic Con, what are you most excited to hear about?

This is EXACTLY why the villain needs to be MANDARIN. The clash of technology and magic (alien-tech) would be a nice change up. I was really surprised at how many people want him to face GHOST. That's just another dude in another suit.

MANDARIN FTW!!!

Each film has exceeded the previous suits, my favorite was the suitcase armor but until the Avengers its hard to choose from the spinning rings or the homeage bracelets. What will be next

Nanobots... that's interesting. RDJ is a great actor, I'm glad to hear he's more interested in challenging the character than simply revisiting.

I wonder if they will explore the side effects of Extremis.

"Iron Man: 3rd Act" sounds like a badass title.

Tony93: No one know yet, apparently. But, I love speculating, so, here are a few of my guesses...

Spoilers!

Quentin Beck (um, from the way he disappears among the umbling thunder), or the universe's Albert Malik (due to his apparent connection with the elder Parkers). Michael Massee looks like he can fit the Chameleon or Sandman (OK, that's just by the looks - I don't think Sandman will be involved in any way), though.

End of Spoilers!

This concept art used in the article, released a few days back, will be the poster for the IMAX 12:01 showing.

BET!

I actually have a few more ideas, but...hey, this is an Iron Man article. :P

I really can't wait to get the full look of this new (Extremis? Bleeding Edge?) armor - I'm honestly a bit concerned on the dominantly yellow coloring. Hopefully, it just has more yellow a la Bleeding Edge, but still with the red chest plate, et cetera. The gauntlets and boots are enough, I guess.

Dude I'm such a fan of RDJ, I hope he nails it and stays on for 3 more films...I keep thinking about marvel phase 2 & 3 and I just hope that RDJ wants to stay through the whole thing.

For what it's worth I know a guy working on this movie and he told me late last year that Iron Man fighting another armored villain was the last thing anybody wanted to see. He didn't reveal any details but did pick up a copy of Extremis the day before we talked.

Oh and yes, this is a variation of the Bleeding Edge Armor. Very cool, but It's gonna be hard to top the Mark VII!

But I gotta say, using the Hot Rod Crimson as a secondary and the Gold as the main-- It looks sick!
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 7/4/2012, 1:43 AM
I hope Mark VII will again make an appearance in Iron Man 3 - even the badass debut of that badass armor in The Avengers is not enough.

I also wonder what will cause Tony replace his armor again this time. I've had enough of "not powerful enough" case, or "it's severely damaged" reason. It most likely will be based on Extremis, though, so...the former case will be in it, apparently. Not that it's a big deal. Bring it on!

Lemme guess: Act III is Tony fighting a bad guy in a beefier version of his stolen nanotech suit...

I know I'm in the minority but I don't like nano tech amor residing in his bone marrow and his brain being wired to the Internet. I like Iron Man being more grounded.

RDJ is tired of playing stark like a one trick pony. He want this to be the best of/and the end of the series like TDKR! Bring on the reboot!

TheGambitFreak - 7/4/2012, 4:14 AM
@UrbanKnight You sir, are retarded.

Robert Downey Jr. has stated he wants to play Tony Stark 'till the day he dies. Why would they reboot Iron Man? Wow. CBM needs users to take an IQ test before creating an account.

Ha ha.. [frick] you freak! I was just kidding, "sir". lol.
I was acting retarded like some of you [frick]s do on the batman threads. Easy aint it?

Dont like it when it happens to you though, right?? lol. Very mature, point proven.

Id wager my mind is more sophisticated than yours simple bitch!

Im looking forward to this but RD does sound like he wants a more complex role for this one to keep it interesting for himself.

For those asking about who the man in the shadows is in the spider-man easter egg, the actor listed in the credits lists Michael masse who is a great actor! If you know what he looks like you realise he's going to play Norman Osborn!! I realised this after watching the film last night as when peter steals the Id badge at oscorp and goes up the escalator you can hear a woman talking about oscorp and shows a huge projection of Norman Osborn which is slightly shadowed but you can still make out that it's an image of Michael masse!

Of all Marvel productions, people should be least worried about '3'. This is going to be badass.

theInvincibleMexiMan - 7/4/2012, 8:13 AM
I hope they choose the Bleeding edge armor over Extremis. Even though they are both similar Bleeding Edge has a much cooler design and it looks different enough from the other suits to where its fresh and new.
