The new Judge Dredd film appears to be drawing a lot of comparisons to The Raid. But is that necessarily a bad thing? It looks as if our 'been there/seen that' society may have struck again.

People need to stop comparing this film to The Raid. I highly doubt Alex Garland decided to copy a film that hadn't even been made at the time he was writing Dredd. Also people were comparing the premise of Dredd to Diehard before The Raid came out and now with the success of The Raid people want to say Dredd is a copy. The funny thing is The Raid itself was an homage to John Carpenters Assault On Precinct 13 and was heavily influenced by Die Hard and Bruce Lee's Game of Death. Personally I love films that take place in one location and I love the John Carpenter vibe they are going for with this Dredd film. The look and feel of it has more in common with Escape From New York than The Raid I think. I love Dredd and this looks awesome- they look like they've nailed it and Urban is awesome. You wanted a real Dredd movie- "Well you've got one now":-)

Dredd looks great. The Raid was brilliant. I don't think it's a case of one copying the other. The director of The Raid Gareth Evans says it all really.

@Natrag The Raid is Indonesian movie not Chinese, can't your eyes spot the different? The Raid = Silat (Indonesian martial art) movie , Dreed = more gunfight and from comic book (The Raid also now in comic book too).

Now can you see the different?

Ha, thanks for featuring my tweet, Mark!

Anyway, I've ALWAYS thought a The Raid-styled movie will suit Judge Dredd very well, and to my own surprise, seems like they are trying to fulfill that...of course, that's a good thing for me. But then again, it may look way too similar it will be hard for general audiences to avoid comparing them (whatever the true situation is) - I just hope they have something in their hands to prove that such prejudice is wrong.

If anybody has read any Dredd, you know its a similar story to 'Block Mania'. Block wars are a part of the Dredd universe.

Drokk!
