JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS - PART 1's Release Date Seemingly Revealed By Amazon Blu-ray Listing

2024 is set to see the release of a two-part (well, potentially three-part) Crisis on Infinite Earths animated movie, and an Amazon listing for the Blu-ray may reveal when it will be available to buy...

In recent years, we've seen Warner Bros. Animation's DC Animated Universe adapt countless beloved stories while putting fresh spins on heaps of others. Some have been better than others, and while a few weren't great, some have gone down as instant classics.

With DC Studios planning to incorporate future animated projects into the DCU, this particular franchise's future is uncertain, but all signs currently point to the "Tomorrowverse" going out on a high.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths is heading our way in 2024 and while we'd heard the movie would be presented in two parts, there have also been rumours it could be split in three.

The movie was first announced during July's San Diego Comic-Con along with an animated take on Watchmen. Only that vague 2024 debut was mentioned at the time, but as we first reported on Toonado.com, a new listing on Amazon France appears to confirm the movie will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K starting January 24, 2024.

If so, we can probably expect a Digital debut a week or two beforehand.

Speculation continues running rampant that Crisis will bring together nearly every character we've ever seen in the DCAU, delivering the ultimate crossover before the focus is shifted to DC Studios' upcoming endeavours (the only confirmed animated project currently on the way from them is Max TV series Creature Commandos).

All those voice actors could prove to be too pricey for what's essentially a direct-to-DVD title, and we'd bet on the same cast members voicing multiple versions of the same characters. Until official details are shared, we can't say for sure either way.

The story is one that's been adapted on only a handful of occasions, including by The CW's Arrowverse. Before the formation of DC Studios, Warner Bros. had been planning a live-action Crisis movie with The Flash meant to set the stage for that. Unfortunately, that all changed and the movie's ending was reshot (for the third time by our count).

We have the movie's logo but, as of now, no sort of official first look has been shared by Warner Bros. Animation and DC. That's bound to change soon if this leaked release date is accurate, though.

Crisis on Infinite Earths was a comic book crossover storyline published by DC Comics in the mid-1989s. The series, written by Marv Wolfman and pencilled by George Pérez, ran for 12 issues and stemmed from the former's desire to abandon the DC Multiverse.

Believing the concept had become overly complicated, the writer set out to create a single, unified DC Universe.

At the start of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Anti-Monitor (the Monitor's evil counterpart) is unleashed on the DC Multiverse and begins to destroy the various Earths that it comprises. The Monitor tries to recruit heroes from around the Multiverse but is murdered, while Brainiac collaborates with the villains to conquer the remaining Earths.

However, both the heroes and villains are eventually united by the Spectre, and the series concludes with Kal-L, Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor Jr. defeating the Anti-Monitor with the creation of a single Earth in place of the Multiverse then following. Crisis on Infinite Earths is noted for its high death count; hundreds of characters died, including DC icons Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and Barry Allen/The Flash.

As a result, the DCU was, for a long time, broken down into the "pre" and "post" Crisis eras.

How to properly enjoy Crisis on Infinite Earths:

Step 1: Go buy 2 large bottles of tequila, some beef jerky, a package of jalapeno jack cheese sticks, a very large container of popcorn, & 3-4 packages of Nutter Butter PeanutButter cookies

Step 2: Ignore all the animated crap & CW garbage, & read your old worn reader's copies of the original comics plus the other tertiary DC comics all in the release date order while chowing down for however many days this takes.

Step 3: Send me a huge thank you gift for this great advice.

@DocSpock - I have the box set that they released years ago. Great set with all the tie-ins and the old Crisis on Multiple Earths JLA-JSA Stories are also included!

@kider2 -

Outstanding!! That whole run was fantastic. At its time, it was the biggest comic book event that had ever happened. It was a yearlong thing. I remember that all very fondly. People were so shocked when they whacked Supergirl & Flash.

@DocSpock - It was also Leagues better than Secret Wars in both scripting and art.

@RolandD -

Very true.

The art was fantastic.

I really loved Secret Wars, but it was not close to Crisis in quality & originality.

@DocSpock - This has so much potential if done right, pulling on everything we've seen in the DCAU to this point, and, of course, Superboy Prime. I hope they stick the superhero landing. There's a lot of em'. My only regret is that Kevin didn't live long enough to be in it.

@The1st -

Eh. That's okay I know a lot of people like the animated stuff, even some adults. I don't care for them.

Shame it's not an adaption of the original comic book series, that shit was f*ckin great, one of my favourite stories ever.

If it sticks to the books, cool, I'm interested. If's it's done by the same people behind those recent comic story adaptions like Hush, Red Son and Killing Joke, the ones who can't help but insert their attempts at witty Joss Whedon "humour" then I ain't gonna bother.

@HashTagSwagg - It won't,they've changed The Harbinger's look for starters,she is more like any energy being.

If you watch Justice League:WarWorld she turns up at the end.

I thought Legion of Superheroes, The Doom That Came To Gotham and Justice League Warworld still had to be released, meaning I was confused this wasn't the last pre-DCU animated movie.

Apparently those already released though. That totally went by me. Guess I have sone catching up to do before this one comes around.

I want to be excited for this but this is just way too soon for the new animated universe

Man with they were doing this with the classic DCAU. That was a fully developed universe and multiverse

Plus with Kevin Conroy gone, i highly doubt we will be seeing the dcau again

OT but still DC animation-related.

Richard Moll (Two-Face on Batman: The Animated Series) passed away.

@FlixMentallo21 - people really dont talk about him like they do Conroy, Hamil and Sorkin but he kind of is the definitive Two Face

Pretty much every two face imitates his voice

@dracula - Agreed. He’s also voiced other characters I’ve really liked, like Norman the warrior on Mighty Max; Marvel villains the Scorpion and the Abomination (both times taking over for their previous VAs); and the one-shot Freakazoid foe Vorn the Unspeakable, a watered-down Saturday morning Cthulhu.

“Released in mid 1989s” Can we get an actual editor here? I mean, if it was only the occasional mistake I could get it but yeah.
