The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the next DC Animated Universe movie from Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be Legion of Super-Heroes

Taking Supergirl into the 31st Century, Meg Donnelly will lend her voice to Kara in the movie, while Harry Shum Jr. is taking on the role of Braniac 5. The lead cast also includes Darren Criss as Superman, Matt Bomer as The Flash, and the return of Jensen Ackles as Batman.

In Legion of Super-Heroes, the story picks up as Kara, devastated by the loss of Krypton, struggles to adjust to her new life on Earth. Her cousin, Superman, mentors her and suggests she leave their space-time to attend the Legion Academy in the 31st century, where she makes new friends and a new enemy: Braniac 5.

Meanwhile, she must contend with a mysterious group called the Dark Circle as it searches for a powerful weapon held in the Academy’s vault.

Butch Lukic serves as supervising producer on the project, while Jeff Wamester (Green Lantern: Beware My Power) will direct. Josie Campbell (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) wrote Legion of Super-Heroes, and Jim Krieg, Kimberly S. Moreau, and Sam Register produce.

As for the rest of this impressive voice cast, we have Cynthia Hamidi as Dawnstar, Gideon Adlan as Phantom Girl, Ely Henry as Bouncing Boy, Robbie Daymond as TimberWolf & Brianiac 4, Yuri Lowenthal as Mon El, Eric Lopez as Cosmic Boy & Chemical King, Darin De Paul as Brainiac & Solomon Grundy, Ben Diskin as Arms Fall off Boy & Brainiac 2, Victoria Grace as Shadow Lass, Jennifer Hale as Alura, Daisy Lightfoot as Triplicate Girl and Zeno Robinson as Invisible Kid & Brainiac 3.

You can check out a first look at Legion of Super-Heroes below, and we'll no doubt have much more to share with you about this one soon.

@CyberNigerian - yeah I felt like the Green Lantern movie was the weakest out of the latest animated DC films

Love that they started a new shared universe. Just need to get rid of the underwear on Superman / Batman.

@DanFlashesShirt - I think it was when Bendis came on board to write for Action comics and Superman that Superman started wearing his trunks again and it’s been like that ever since. Not saying Bendis was the reason for bringing them back but I noticed that he was wearing them when Bendis wrote those issues.

Sigh yes The Legion Of Super-Heroes really needed Batman in it... Not like there are tons of Legion characters to focus on or anything like that...

@kider2 - Fully agree. It is what disappointed me the most about Legion of Three Worlds. First few issues were good but then it became a Bart Allen Kon-El story.

@GarthRanzz - Yes I also hate how XS and Gates joined the retroboot team and XS basically only made cameos after that... What's even the point of including her as a member of the team if you aren't going to use her. Still hope DC will figure out that people just want good Legion stories rather than another reboot.

@kider2 - Batman is probably in the past with Superman. I doubt he's going to be in the 31s century with the Legion

@GarthRanzz - I really like Legion of Three Worlds but it was definitely Johns tying up his loose ends.

@kider2 - Never heard the term “retroboot” for that team before, I like it. And yeah XS was a real waste there, which is weird because I feel like she makes a lot of sense as a Legionnaire in any continuity going forward.

@kider2 - jsa had superman

Green lantern had none of the trinity

His role will probably be on par with Superman and Martian manhunter in those

@OmegaBlack13 - Well Legion had a couple of reboots and then in the pages of JLA and JSA they brought back the "original" team but there were things that never added up continuitywise. Hence retroboot. The reboots were all a mess. I get why the Zero Hour one happened as my favorite run (5YL) basically transformed the team to unrecognizable. But as the Zero Hour run really got better and better then Waid and Kitson rebooted it to mixed results. Then they brough back Jim Shooter who was doing some interesting things but then in Johns and Metzler inexplicably brought back the "originals" right as the Shooter run got going. Then the Levitz run happened (really liked the early issues) but it faded pretty hard. Then Bendis rebooted the team again which wasnt a bad run. He made the team pretty unrecognizable but it at least had the charm of early era/early zero hour era. Some people hate it because of the changes it made. Getting back to XS yeah, its sad. She was a great character and even though she is changed somewhat on CW, she is probably my favorite character on any CW show. Looking back they should have just stayed with the Zero Hour Legion which she was such a big part of.

@GarthRanzz - Yeah I’m familiar with the reboots and get why retroboot is used, I’d just never heard it. Johns and Meltzer brought back the old Legion because they have a hard on for a really specific era of DC, haha. And yeah when Levitz initially came I liked it, but I stopped caring around when that new team of cadets for introduced. I actually liked the Bendis team a lot, even though he did like 12 issues that could’ve been 6-8. I hope that someone else picks them up instead of going back to retroboot, or god forbid making a new team. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Zero Hour team not using boy/girl/lad/lass/kid names but it would probably make them more likely to get pushed at this point.

@kider2 - I'll give it to them. This dc universe has done a good job avoiding making every superhero movie batman and friends. We can give them one mulligan.

@comicfan100 - I hope so. Superman and Supergirl would make sense to join the Legion in the 31st century. But Batman please no...
