JUSTICE LEAGUE: Henry Cavill Weighs In On The Possibility Of Us Getting An Explanation For Clark Kent's Return

Clark Kent returned from the dead with no explanation in Justice League and Henry Cavill has now weighed in on the chances of us ever receiving one for the mysterious return of Superman's alter-ego...

After Superman died during the battle with Doomsday in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Daily Planet reported that Clark Kent was also killed in the melee. However, following the return of the Man of Steel in Justice League, we saw that his human alter-ego was once again walking around Metropolis and seemingly a journalist again with absolutely no explanation as to how that happened.

Well, during a recent fan Q&A, Henry Cavill was asked how Clark's return will be addressed without his identity as Superman being exposed and it sounds like, well, it won't be! "It's a tricky one. The wonderful thing about movies is that it's a suspension of disbelief. We're talking about a guy who can fly, who can shoot lasers out of his eyes. And so there are ways of doing it but telling these stories, it's about your enjoyment. It's about my enjoyment. It's about enjoyment for the viewer."

"And so we can spend four hours of a movie explaining why and how Clark comes back. But is that what you want to see?" When the fans responded with "no," Cavill said: "If I had billions and billions and billions of dollars and I could make six movies a year all based on Superman, yeah, we would go through that." He sort of makes a valid point but it sounds like Warner Bros. is taking the easy way out.

The actor did at least say that we should expect to see it addressed in some way the next time Superman shows up in the DC Films Universe but the actor seemed more interested in just telling a decent story revolving around the hero and it's hard to fault that! What do you think about this?

Look, I get we are talking about comicbooksl, but even in those stories they explained stuff. Even without comic books you can't say Clark is alive because it just is. You set up rules for this universe and can't turn your back on them.

First time I have not liked Henry talk about Supermab

Cavill really got the short end of the stick playing Superman. He has the potential to be so great in the role but is squandered by mediocre writing and direction.

Well from perspective, does it make sense that Captain America would be able to live a quiet life in the same city which has a museum featuring an exhibit entirely devoted to him after he saved the world from aliens? Not saying that was bad, just that there are ways.

@Origame - Cap is not alien.

@AHRNihal - I said he saved the world FROM aliens.

@Origame - his identity is not secret

@Origame - What i said no one(mcu in universe people) cares about cap in plain sight, when they have a god,a monster, iron man running around.

Origame - 12/14/2017, 4:30 AM
@slyjason - Again, that's the issue. He can be world famous with saving the world and having a wing in the smithsonian, no secret identity, and yet he can just go home with no press or whatever.

Origame - 12/14/2017, 4:32 AM
@AHRNihal - Then why are people going to his wing in the smithsonian? "oh boy I can't wait to see this exhibit about Captain America. What? Captain America himself lives a few blocks away? eh. I don't care."

@Origame - i think the main problem with superman is the secret identity

@auditore - That's not what I'm arguing. I'm arguing that we get all these things that don't make sense about their personal lives but we accept them through suspension of disbelief. So why not this too?

@Origame - Most of the time we see Cap with the general population he's incognito. When he went the Smithsonian he had on a hat and glasses and when they were at the computer place he had that on as well.

Well Clark Kent was barely a character in the movies before he died so I guess my suspension of disbelief won’t be too difficult. Not that I actually expect them to make another solo Superman movie any time soon. Which they absolutely should do immediately.

@TheUnworthyThor - I felt more connected to Clark in MoS and BvS than the cardboard character we got in JL.

90% of Superman scenes felt like that star sprangled banner montage in the first Captain America movie.

@TheUnworthyThor - Clark was the central character in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Clark Kent is the real Superman. Superman is just a disguise Clark Kent puts on when he needs to use his abilities to help people. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were all about Clark.

@SisterSunday52 - Actually I just meant they didn’t set up his home life, his friends, his work life, his co-workers to any real large extant, they didn’t put much focus on it at all besides Lois and Martha, so I wouldn’t find it jarring if they found away to reestablish Clark Kent. There was no try to distinguish the difference between the Clark and Superman personas, just that the movies spent a long time exploring his alien side and not as much time in Smallville or with Clark at the Planet as other films have done.

TheUnworthyThor - 12/14/2017, 11:21 AM
@DavidGray - That’s great for you but it’s hard to ignore that the general audience to a large degree did not share those sentiments which helped lead to it’s failure with the terrible opening weekend it had.

@TheUnworthyThor - Actually, that was studio interference screwing over Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon. That lost the growing DC Films fanbase which got Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman into the 800 million dollar range. Then the fear of another dark depressing nihilistic indictment of the superhero (which neither Man of Steel nor Batman v Superman were, but the general audience and one half of DC fans never understood that) and Rotten Tomatoes, making it look like the review embargo was lifted the day of release, turned off most of the general audience.

TheUnworthyThor - 12/14/2017, 11:50 AM
@SisterSunday52 - Of course they got worried and changed course. BvS despite being profitable was financially a huge disappointment for them. They did their research, they knew a huge percentage of their audience wasn’t behind them.
