We all know the story. James Gunn, director of both
Guardians of the Galaxy movies, was fired by Disney from some very questionable tweets they dug up. Which in result, stirred up plenty of controversy from the fans. So regardless of your opinion on this decision, Gunn is done from making Marvel movies. Which in another result, made Dave Bautista very unhappy. To the point where he's expressed his anger repeatedly on Twitter, and seemingly wants to leave Disney and Marvel altogether. To sum up this ordeal in one word; yikes.
No one expected so much mayhem in such little time. It's now
official that Guardians 3 will be put on a hiatus. In other words, that's not to say the movie is canceled. However, Disney just needs time to get things together before they have a concrete release date again. So, what exactly does the future hold for this beloved but frozen franchise?
First things first, they have to get a new director. Knowing the massive success Marvel has had, I'm sure directors from all over are knocking on their door. Which means picking the right director is even more important. Fans are already angry that James Gunn is gone. So getting a worthy director to replace him will probably be a lengthy process. Personally, there's only one person who could take this franchise and run with it. Not only that, but receive approval from fans without hesitation. And that's Taika Waititi. Known for directing
Thor: Ragnarok, he's been praised for his wacky style and unique take on Thor's third installment.
His otherworldly comedy is something that fits Star-Lord and his gang to a tee. There are numerous amounts of great directors out there, but Waititi would be an exceptional choice.
Secondly, where would you even take the Guardians after this? Well, Avengers 4 could tell us where the Guardians will go from here on out, but as of now, we can only theorize. Adam Warlock could be a big player in Volume 3, so there's that.
The team itself may change their roster a bit as well. Does Drax come back after the recent Bautista Bombs happening? It's very possible if Bautista does in fact leave Disney, his Drax may get written off. Whether it's by death or simply just leaving the team to be his own man.
Also, don't be surprised if Thor becomes a new member of the Guardians. It would be huge to see an original Avenger join the outlaws in space. He could be their "big weapon" for big battles. These characters have already met each other, as seen in
Avengers: Infinity War. Who wouldn't want to see more of something like this?
Bottom line, don't expect the exact same team for the next movie.
Overall, it's a shame with what's happened with the Guardians franchise in the past weeks. However, that doesn't mean their future isn't bright. Marvel can fix this with the right preparation. Although, in the possibility we don't see the Guardians again after Avengers 4, then I think we can all say it's been a good ride.
