It's A THOR: RAGNAROK Reunion As Tessa Thompson Joins Chris Hemsworth In MEN IN BLACK Reboot

A smart move by Sony or unimaginative casting? We'll let you be the judges of that but it's been revealed today that Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson will be joining Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming Men in Black reboot. The two shared a great deal of chemistry in the Marvel Studios movie and Thompson's star is on the rise after playing Valkyrie in the MCU and starring in Westworld

Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray will be at the helm and the script was penned by Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway and Art Meachum. It's currently set to be released on June 14th, 2019.

Apparently, this reboot will feature new characters rather than rebooted versions of Agents K and J and will "build on the contemporary sci-fi world in which they operated." Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that, "the new project is more of an ensemble piece than a two-hander and will be more global in scope." To be fair, it definitely sounds like they're taking the right approach to the project.

Whether or not it will work out remains to be seen (just look at Ghostbusters) but the cast Sony is putting together is excellent and they've found two excellent leads here. What do you guys think?

@Nebula - Why?

@Nebula - If you're concerned about people crying foul about having a female lead in a film called "Men in Black" because it's a "PC SJW 2018" or whatever, just remind them that the 1997 original literally ended with J getting a female partner.

@DeadCipher - Tessa Thompson being all feministy. The first thing that came to mind is the apparent line in Dark Phoenix where Jlaw will say something like "More like X-Women"

@FromACertainPOV - Yes and then she never shows up ever again. Not disagreeing, but...it annoyed me we never saw her again.

@FromACertainPOV - I'm not, I'm just saying that some people will definitely be like "Oh well it's not 'Men in black' now is it?"

^ That's a stupid argument but people will make it.

@Nebula - To be fair, Women in Black sound weird.

But the word men can ac5ually spread to all members of humanity, for instance as wiki put it he term "man" (from Proto-Germanic *mannaz or *manwaz "man, person") and words derived from it can designate any or even all of the human race regardless of their sex or age. In traditional usage, man (without an article) itself refers to the species, to humanity, or "mankind", as a whole.”

@DeadCipher - I know. I agree with you. I'm just saying that people will complain about the name. Even though it's based on the real alien conspiracy thing.

@Nebula - Yes, I deal with these types a lot. They never went away, just went more covert.

Sounds like they're trying to give MIB the Jump Street treatment by not fully rebooting it.

@AC1 - There were plans for a cross-over.

@ChangAlang - yeah, didn't those email leaks kinda kill that movie? I'm glad it won't happen, there's nothing in Jump Street to indicate aliens and the kinda stuff MIB deal with should exist in that universe. But the thought did cross my mind.

@AC1 - Most likely. Honestly, all I was concentrating on was the Spidey deal. It was like I had tunnel vision.

If I had to choose I’d much rather have this Chris/Tessa MIB than that crossover any day.

I thought he was still in talks to join the reboot. I must have missed the official announcement of him being onboard.

A bit unimaginative but okay. They'll have something to do while IW and "Avengers 4" do their things with their characters.

@NinnesMBC - He's not been officially cast, the THR report says "his deal isn't closed but is expected to"
