Mia Goth Will Reportedly Play The Bride Of FRANKENSTEIN In Guillermo Del Toro's Netflix Adaptation

It seems previous rumors relating to the roles Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield will play in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein adaptation may not have been accurate...

Fan-favorite director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade 2, The Shape of Water) recently confirmed that he had finally begun working on his long-gestating adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for Netflix, with Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight, the Star Wars sequel trilogy), Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man movies), and Mia Goth (Infinity Pool, Pearl) in the lead roles.

Now, we may know which characters they'll play.

It had previously been assumed that Isaac had been cast as the eponymous doctor, with Garfield as the monster, and Goth as Victor Frankenstein's love-interest, Elizabeth. But according to What's On Netflix, this won't be the case.

Though this hasn't been officially confirmed, Isaac will reportedly give life to the Monster, Garfield will play his wayward creator, while Goth will be playing the role of the Bride.

In some adaptations, Victor's fiancé, Elizabeth, and the Bride are one and the same, which might well be the direction del Toro decides to go in.

During the 10th-anniversary screening of Pacific Rim, the filmmaker announced that Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Alita: Battle Angel) was also on board in an undisclosed role.

“I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago. Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.”

Del Toro will write and direct the film.

First published in 1818, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus has been adapted numerous times for the stage and screen, but there have been very few fully faithful takes on the story (the creature's appearance in the novel, for example, has never been accurately depicted).

With Del Toro behind the camera, it's probably safe to assume that this version will stick as closely as possible to the book.

Just in case you're somehow unaware of the premise of the novel, you'll find a brief synopsis below.

"A young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, driven by vanity and thirst for knowledge, manages to give life to a creature whom he assembled from dead material. The creature turns out very ugly, and Victor abandons him in horror. Rejected by his creator and hated by mankind in general, the Monster devotes himself to destruction and revenge."

Hmmm…

I feel like Garfield should be the monster and Isaac should be Frankenstein , that just feels like it fits more to me but I trust Del Toro so I’m willing to give them a shot.

Looking forward to it!!.

Saw a Frankenstein production over the weekend and it really was incredible stuff. Even 200+ years on this book is still the moulding clay for so many interesting takes and reinterpretations. Finally finished the Junji Ito manga too, which rocked insanely hard.

She’s gonna be Elizabeth btw - it’s based on Wrightson’s art where he never brings the bride to life

I mean, I get she's an adult now. But she still looks young. So this is a weird pic.

I trust in Guillermo del Toro , but I kinda wanted unknown actors or less known ones for one of his most passionate projects. He’s been waiting years to make this movie, and I feel like the big names will distract from the artistry of the movie.

But it’s Guillermo Del Toro so we mustn’t be worried , he’ll make it right.

I would rather not have Garfield at all, but not having him as the monster, the most memorable/juiciest role in most versions, is a small consolation.
