The Man From U.N.C.L.E has been knocking around at Warner Bros. for a long time now, and was originally set to star George Clooney and be directed by Steven Soderbergh until the actor was forced to drop out because of neck surgery. A while ago it was announced that Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie was on board to direct, and Tom Cruise was in talks to star. Now Deadline report that it's a done deal, and joining him will be The Lone Ranger himself, Armie Hammer. The original TV series ran from 1964-68, and starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum as agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin as they battled the evil forces of "Thrush" (sounds nasty). Apparently Hammer would play a version of the role originated by McCallum.

This should be interesting... Unless they make a running gag out of the vast height difference between Cruise and Hammer, they're going to have to find a damn big box for Tom to stand on or those two together are going to look hilarious.

Maybe WB is locking Hammer down with this film so he can stay with the studio in his next film as Batman in Justice League.

The original Man From U.N.C.L.E. was on when I was a kid. It was fun, although not truly great or anything. I do wonder how they're going to make it distinctive, & set it apart from other spy pictures.

Armie is the new Gretchen Mol. They are desperately trying to make him happen but it just isn't working out.

This guys' voice and looks is certainly Batman. But it's gonna be weird to see if Batman is taller than Supes.

Yeah....the height difference was my FIRST reaction also. This is kind of an odd casting, I've only seen Hammer in The Social Network, but I have a hard time picturing a giant spy working on screen :/

And I'm sure Hammer is playing Kuraykin...so It'll look like Rocky 4 when they're together lol
