Johns seems to be riffing on the perception of Aquaman as something of a joke among some fans. I think it could work. From these pages anyway it might be worth checking out.

Look for Aquaman #1 along with the rest of DC's "New 52" this coming September.

Looks like an interesting way to approach this. I could get on board with that, especially since I don't know a lot about to character anyway.

I'd be a lot happier with this if they'd just admit this is all related to the Superman lawsuit. I think is mildly insulting that they assume we don't pay attention to those things.

I never really cared for Aquaman but I've always understood there's more to him than the general cbnerds acknowledge. This looks badass! I am getting on this train as soon as it hits. Reinventing Aquaman has some good potential! The only problem is the name: Aquaman. I always thought he should be called Guardian or something like that. Aquaman sounds too strange, unless you got Lee's version of him.

He almost attracts the same negative attention Ant Man does. They both have wealth of source material and depth...I EXCITE!

It looks really sharp. I would love to see a long run for an Aquaman series.

Recently, after exploring what the Navy Reserve is all about, Aquaman has sparked interest in me. I have a vision that I believe could work on film. Never really liked him before, but after some research, he can really kick ass. Hope they don't keep on land in the relaunch alot, only when he teams up with the JL. I don't know, I'm imagining a 007 boat chase with Aquaman for some reason, hm...

"Aw, Hell. what's AQUAMAN doing here? We're not in the Ocean and i don't see any fish around--"
that's what i thought.

Aquaman is bullet proof? I thought all he could do is breathe underwater and chat with fish.

If you can replace Aquaman with Superman, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, or any bullet resistant characters in that panel means the panels are nothing special.

Art is fine though. Another fine drawing from Reis.

let me get this clear : aquaman was character-wise a joke among most superhero lovers and now DC has decided to take its global brand and this specific character to the next level by ..... making everyone in his own universe acknowledge that he's a joke ???? considering superman finally stopped wearing his underwear above his suit , I m wondering if they didn t decide to focus the banters on a single character....

What's Aquaman doing on land? BTW, Ivan Reis's art are completely awesome!! Just like what he did on GL. Hopes we can see some epic underwater battle with Ocean Master or Black Manta.

Aquaman movie please!! =)

I think it looks great, the art is top notch. Never been a big fan of Aquaman, but I'm willing to give it a try and see where they take it. If it sucks, I just stop buying it. Simple.

Dedpool

Awesome! I've always said they need to make him more Namor-like. JLU had the best take on him so far! Aquaman sn't as strong as Superman but he's damned strong from being able to survive the ocean depths, his eyes are better because of the dark under the sea, and his mucle are stronger from swimming.

Shaman

emeraldprince- He's bleeding from that last shot to the face. So maybe he's just bullet "resistent". A gaitling gun to the face would settle it, i guess.
